Liverpool would have another Camacho if they signed Harper

[ad_pod ]

According to The Mirror, Liverpool are interested in signing West Brom teenager Rekeem Harper this summer.

What’s the word?

Harper is one of the most established names to have come through the Baggies’ youth academy in recent years, playing 23 times in all competitions last term.

However, his contract is due to expire at the end of the month and he’s still yet to sign a new deal with Albion despite being offered one.

As such, a number of clubs are now circling around the 19-year-old as they eye up a free transfer.

The Mirror claim that Liverpool have an interest but face competition from both Juventus and Tottenham in a deal that would cost them nothing.

Another Camacho?

Harper is a gifted football and that’s evident in the number of times he played for a side competing for promotion last season, featuring on a regular basis despite his young age.

However, for all the wrong reasons Jurgen Klopp could have another Rafael Camacho on his hands if he signs for Liverpool.

Why? Because of his mindset.

Harper had a promising campaign but towards the end of the term his form dropped off, leading some West Brom fans to question both his mentality,

They hinted that he didn’t look up to the task and it’s that kind of approach to the game that has arguably led to Camacho potentially leaving too.

Last season after the Portuguese scored a hat-trick in an U23 match against Leicester in April, he posted a rather controversial message on Instagram.

It was a bizarre post from the youngster but it shows the questionable attitude that he has to the game.

Rather than getting on with things and letting his football do the talking, he decided to act out on social media.

Harper hasn’t gone to those extremes but his performances on the pitch certainly show he’s a player that struggles with his attitude too.

The West Brom man’s disinterest can be summed up by his woeful showing in their play-off semi-final second leg with Aston Villa. In the 15 minutes he was on the field, he was dispossessed twice.

It was yet again another performance that angered West Brom fans who took to Twitter to berate him and another academy graduate after that defeat. One supporter claimed he had no commitment whilst another suggested he didn’t have the bottle to take a penalty.

Given the strong mentality within the Liverpool side at the moment, this is a signing they should probably try and forget about.

Predicted XI: How will Liverpool line up in the Champions League final?

[ad_pod ]

We’re just over a week away from the game that will make or break Liverpool’s season.

Liverpool will take on Tottenham inside the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on the 1st June, where they can pick up their sixth European cup with victory over Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Jurgen Klopp doesn’t have too many worries on his mind in terms of his players’ fitness levels.

Key man Roberto Firmino recently returned to training in the only noteworthy news, whilst no players are suspended for the showpiece event.

Luis Suarez certainly had no qualms about celebrating against his former employers in the video below…

Let’s take a look at how Klopp may set his side up against Spurs as he bids to win his first trophy at Liverpool…

Despite Divock Origi’s semi-final heroics, Firmino is too important to the side for him to be dropped.

We predict that the Brazilian will come back into the side in his ‘false nine’ role in between Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, who have a combined 52 goals between them this term.

In midfield, Klopp has a hard decision to make.

Does he drop the hero of the semi-final in Gini Wijnaldum and trust the experienced James Milner, or should he reward the Dutchman for his two goals against Barcelona with a start in the final?

We think he won’t do the latter, as Milner’s leadership will be key in guiding his teammates through this nervy affair.

If things go sour, however, how will Klopp react?

If the Reds find themselves in a sticky situation in Madrid, we think Klopp will sub off two of his most trusted men in Firmino and Milner and turn to his semi-final heroes Wijnaldum and Origi.

As you can see above, this particular system will see a more advanced Wijnaldum, whose focus will be to arrive late in the box and get on the scoresheet – he has already netted against Spurs this season.

Additionally, where Firmino likes to operate deeper, we think Origi will be an effective substitute in an out-and-out striker role, a position which he put Barcelona to the sword in.

It would be extremely gutting for Klopp to lose a fourth final with Liverpool, so he must ensure he gets his team selection and plan B spot on.

The Verdict: Should West Ham pay £18m for Bradley Dack?

[ad_pod ]

West Ham United have been linked with a swoop for Blackburn Rovers midfielder Bradley Dack, per the Daily Mail.

The Hammers are said to have made checks on the star, who has enjoyed an excellent season in the Championship and is valued at £18million by the club.

Indeed, the former Gillingham ace has scored 15 goals in the second-tier this term, while also providing seven assists.

But should the Hammers part with nearly £20m to secure a player who has never played in the top-flight?

Football FanCast’s writers have their say below!

Harry Elnaugh

“Dack has always threatened to make that breakthrough to the PL but hasn’t yet and perhaps that should be a warning sign for West Ham. The 25-year-old seems to have found his level in the Championship and if the Hammers want to take that step up to challenge the likes of Wolves then they need some proven Premier League talent.”

Matt Dawson

“Bradley Dack seems like a typical West Ham signing and I’m not surprised to hear that they could be in the market for him. However, at £18m, they’d have to be absolutely mad. Do West Ham really need a creative midfielder this summer? Arguably not. Any money they are looking to spend shouldn’t be on him. Instead, funds should be used to bolster both defence and attack. The Hammers can find far better value elsewhere.”

James Beavis

“Dack’s sheer talent places him way above Championship level, but I’m not convinced his all-around game is suited to the Premier League. He has been an impressive performer for Rovers this term, but at £18m he would be another risky Hammers buy. Additonally, attacking midfield surely isn’t a priority for the Irons this summer given they already have the likes of Felipe Anderson and Manuel Lanzini in their ranks. In short, he may well be considered if Samir Nasri goes, but he isn’t the Nasri replacement West Ham need.”

Special player: Leeds fans react as teenager Theo Hudson pens professional deal

[ad_pod ]

Earlier this week, Leeds United announced on their official website that Theo Hudson had penned his first professional contract with the club.

Hudson has signed a one-year deal with the Championship side.

And he will step up to the Under-23s next season after scoring five times in 23 appearances for the club’s Under-18 side during the 2018-19 campaign.

The 18-year-old is a right-footed midfielder who has previously been capped at Under-16 level by England.

It has been a tough few weeks for Leeds with the club still coming to terms with the fact that they will be in the Championship for at least one more season.

However, Leeds Under-23 side have impressed many with their performances over the last 12 months and Hudson will be looking to play his part next term.

Sheffield Wednesday fans disgusted by club statement

[ad_pod ]

Sheffield Wednesday fans on Twitter are embarrassed after a club statement congratulating Sheffield United on their promotion to the Premier League was posted on Twitter.

A statement from their chairman showed respect and wished their bitter rivals luck for the near future as they prepare for life in the top flight.

Dejphon Chansiri referred to the two teams as “friends of the same city” whilst ensuring Wednesday fans that they will be giving it their all to make sure they join their cross-city rivals in the Premier League next year.

The comments went down like a lead balloon amongst Wednesdayites with supporters fuming that the club would wish any good fortune on the team they share such a huge rivalry with.

It’s no secret that the Owls and the Blades don’t get along and the reaction of the fanbase on Twitter shows how out of touch the chairman’s well-wishes are.

Tottenham: Levy right to accept £50m for Kieran Trippier

It’s been clear that Kieran Trippier has suffered from a World Cup hangover, but Spurs can’t afford to carry passengers. If a mega-money offer comes in for him, the club would be right to accept it and find someone new.

Football Insider have claimed they’d be willing to accept an offer of £50m for the right-back, and if they recoup that much money from a player they bought for £4.4m, that’d be great business looking back but also looking forward too, as they build a team for the future.

With their new stadium and Champions League semi-final place, Spurs are forging a reputation as one of the most promising sides in Europe. Pochettino should be able to attract world-class talent to White Hart Lane in summer and just think of what they could do with that £50m.

It’s fair to say Trippier wouldn’t have had such a shocking campaign had he not played the maximum number of games in the World Cup this summer, but perhaps his inability to recover quickly enough is a warning as he nears his 29th birthday in September.

Serge Aurier has been plagued with injuries too, so it’s clear the club need to buy a player in that position, even if Trippier stays. If he does, they won’t be spending much on a new right-back. If they sell Trippier, they have the money to buy a world-class youngster to own the position for the next 10 years.

It’s all about planning for the future, and even though the Englishman may be much better after a summer break, he still needs replacing in the long term, and his sale can be the catalyst for that change.

Should Levy get £50m for the former Burnley ace, he truly is a negotiating genius.

Liverpool fans react on Twitter as Naby Keita is named Porto Man of the Match

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Liverpool fans on Twitter have been heaping praise on midfielder Naby Keita after he was named Man of the Match from the UEFA Champions League win over Porto.

The summer 2018 signing started in the quarter-final first leg having netted for the first time in a Reds shirt in last Friday night’s Premier League beating of Southampton.

He would follow the strike with another at Anfield after just five minutes, setting Jurgen Klopp’s men well on their way to a 2-0 victory to take command of the tie.

It wasn’t just the midfielder’s goal that caught the eye on the night though, his overall performance was of such quality that supporters voted him as their Man of the Match in a poll on Liverpool’s official Twitter account.

Learning that Keita had won the club’s MotM award, much of the fan base swanned to the social media platform to praise the 24-year-old up with the general mood being that the 33-cap Guinea star should now play every game.

Arsenal fans were blown away by Bernd Leno’s derby performance

[ad_pod ]

The north London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal ended in a 1-1 draw at Wembley Stadium on Saturday afternoon. An early Aaron Ramsey strike was cancelled out by a second half Harry Kane penalty.

The scoreline could have been much higher had it not been for both of the goalkeepers on the pitch. Spurs’ captain and No. 1 Hugo Lloris saved a last minute penalty from Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. At the other end of the pitch, the Gunners’ shot-stopper Bernd Leno pulled off a magnificent double save to deny Christian Eriksen and Moussa Sissoko.

The Arsenal ‘keeper had a good game all round, and will be furious to have lost his clean sheet to the penalty. Since his arrival at the Emirates Stadium in the summer, the 26-year-old ‘keeper has gradually grown in stature. The German is now Unai Emery’s established No. 1 and looks to be a reliable first choice for the north London club to have.

After the match on Saturday plenty of Arsenal fans took to Twitter to praise the 6-cap Germany international for his impressive performance…

George Baldock may have given up starting XI spot following display vs Leeds

[ad_pod ]

George Baldock and Kieron Freeman have battled for the right wing-back spot at Sheffield United throughout much of the 2018/19 campaign, with injuries to both players in turn benefitting the other.

It is the former that is currently getting the nod – and probably the first-choice all things considered – with the latter having not featured because of an issue since the goalless draw with Sheffield Wednesday earlier this month.

Chris Wilder has a big decision on his hands when the 26-year-old is available again though, which could potentially be the home clash with Bristol City at Bramall Lane on March 30 due to the upcoming international break.

That tough call may have just been made much easier despite the fact that Baldock kept his third successive clean sheet – and the Yorkshire outfit’s seventh on the bounce in England’s second tier – in a 1-0 win against Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday.

The former MK Dons man wasn’t quite as comfortable and impressive as he has shown that he can be previously though, and was arguably lucky to stay on the pitch following a late lunge on the Whites’ Pontus Jansson – which was punished with a yellow card.

Aside from that, the 26-year-old only made 13 passes throughout his 90 minutes on the pitch, as per stats-based website WhoScored, and he was wasteful with a success percentage of 61.5%.

From an attacking point of view he did complete two dribbles and provided one cross – although it wasn’t an accurate one – while he only made one tackle and two clearances compared to four and one respectively by teammate Enda Stevens on the opposite flank.

Whether it was a rare off-day or not, Baldock needs to be performing better than he did against Marcelo Bielsa’s men if he is to be a starter for a club with automatic promotion in their hands with eight Championship fixtures this season remaining.

Wilder may have been dreading who to pick out of him and Freeman when both are fit, but his decision may have just been made a lot easier following this latest wobble.
