With the January transfer window just around the corner, the rumour mill is beginning to warm up.

Liverpool were quiet during the summer, spending less than £2m as they brought in Sepp van den Berg, Harvey Elliott and Adrian. As they target a first Premier League title win in 30 years, they may look to add to their squad at the start of next year.

One of those they are believed to be pursuing is Genk’s Sander Berge.

The Belgian club’s sporting director Dimitri De Conde has told Radio Punto Nuovo (via Goal.com) that Liverpool are interested in the 21-year-old. However, they will face competition from Napoli, who are also mentioned as being after the 18-time Norway international.

The former Valarenga defensive midfielder has grown into an important member of his club’s starting XI. Last term, he made 40 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing four assists in the process. His contribution helped De Smurfen win the title and qualify for this year’s Champions League.

In the Europa League last term, he was particularly impressive. He scored two goals and provided one assist in four matches, picking up an average WhoScored rating of 7.53, whilst he earned a 7.22 rating during the 16/17 season as well.

Whilst he has appeared mainly in defensive midfield this term, he played slightly further forward against Sarpsborg 08 last season in Europe, for example, and scored a goal and provided an assist.

Clearly, he has talent, and his versatility could prove to be a big plus for the Reds. Given his age, he could be a long-term replacement for Jordan Henderson, another who has split his time between being a central midfielder and playing in a deeper position.

Comparing their statistics, they’re very similar when it comes to their defensive qualities. Henderson has registered 1.8 tackles and 1 interception per game in the league this term while Berge averages 1 tackle and 1.3 interceptions in the Champions League. As for passing, the Norwegian is ever so slightly ahead on 0.8 comapred to Henderson’s 0.5 each outing.

The 55-time England international is 29, and although he is still a big part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans – he has started nine games this campaign in the Premier League – the former Borussia Dortmund man’s pressing, all-action style could eventually take its toll on the former Sunderland man.

Currently valued at £19.8m by Transfermarkt, Berge may just be Henderson’s long-term successor.

اعتذر عبد الله جمعة الظهير الأيسر لفريق الكرة الأول بنادي الزمالك، عن المقطع المصور الذي تعمد فيه استفزاز جماهير النادي الأهلي قائلًا “إضرب يا بدري”، وذلك تعقيبًا على خسارة المارد الأحمر أمام الترجي التونسي بنهائي دوري أبطال إفريقيا.

وقال جمعة في تصريحات تلفزيونية عبر فضائية “إم بي سي مصر”: “أعتذر عن هذا الفيديو، أعلم أن جمهور الأهلي يحبني، ولا أريد أن يغضب مني أحد”.

وأضاف معلقًا على شعور الزمالك بالظلم التحكيمي دائمًا: “هذه أقاويل على منصات التواصل الاجتماعي، ولكننا كلاعبين نفعل دائمًا ما علينا”.

وأردف: “شرف لي اللعب في الزمالك، والمسؤولين تحدثوا معي ومستعد للتوقيع على بياض في أي وقت ولا يوجد لدي مشكلة، والتجديد سيكون في شهر يونيو المقبل”.

واستكمل: “كل لاعب يتمنى الانضمام إلى الأهلي، ولكني أتواجد في الزمالك وهو نادٍ كبير، ولم أتلق عرضًا من بيراميدز”.

وكشف: “شقيقي صالح جمعة تشاجر معي بعد أزمة كأس السوبر، وتلقيت رسالة منه مليئة بالسباب، وأقوله له أتمنى أن تتألق وتعود لبيتك النادي الأهلي مرة أخرى”.

وتابع: “عودتي من ألمانيا عندما كنت محترفًا كانت أكبر خطأ ارتكبته في حياتي”.

واستطرد: “هذا الموسم سننافس على الدوري مع النادي الأهلي وعلى كأس مصر، والموسم المقبل سننافس على بطولة دوري أبطال إفريقيا مرة أخرى، وأقول لجمهور الزمالك لا تحزنوا وسنعوضكم بكل شىء في الموسم المقبل”.

وواصل: محمد مجدي أفشة أفضل لاعب في مصر حاليًا، وهذا ليس مغازلًة في الأهلي ولكنه حقه بأرقامه وكل شىء، وأكثر شىء يتسبب في نجاحه هو ذكائه مثل عبد الله السعيد عندما كان في الأهلي”. واختتم: “شعرت بالظلم وقت تجمع منتخب مصر في بطولة كأس أمم إفريقيا 2019، واللاعب الأسرع في العالم هو كيليان امبابي، فهو أسرع من محمد صلاح بكثير”.

The fact that a three-time Champions League winner who has played for Real Madrid and the Spanish national team believes that it is a “pleasure” to play for Leeds despite their long absence from the top-flight just shows how well-regarded the club are in the footballing world.

Leeds may not be the most liked club in the world, but even the biggest of haters can’t deny that they’re a massive team with a global reputation – just ask Kiko.

Manchester City fans have joined Trevor Sinclair in stating that there is a media agenda against the club after the John Stones incident with Pep Guardiola.

The Spaniard was seen screaming at Stones to get ready as reports across the UK seem to suggest that there is friction between the two.

Guardiola was visibly angry with the centre-back, but Stones told BT Sport after the game (as quoted by The Mirror): “I had them [shin pads] on but I just needed to fix them up properly. Time is of the essence and that’s what he wanted.”

Fans have been quick to jump in on the story and state that there is a slight bend in the approach to their coverage. Certain fans believe that the media “does not like Pep and City”, whilst another supporter claimed it is a “worldwide agenda”.

Sinclair told talkSPORT: “Anything that Pep does or anything that Manchester City players do, the media are all over them,” he said.

“I don’t think it’s a story. That’s why I’m saying there’s some kind of agenda.”

In truth, it was a nothing story, as Guardiola has shown many times down the years to be of the aggressive sorts.

Shouting at his players to get ready as an injured man leaves the pitch is an everyday occurrence for any manager. The boss will ultimately want his players stripped and ready to go as soon as possible.

Perhaps if this wasn’t City, it would not have been covered the way it has.

At least, that’s what some City fans believe…

Danny Mills has claimed that West Ham United’s weak link is their centre-back partnership of Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna, as reported by Football Insider.

This comment comes after the Hammers’ 2-0 victory over Manchester United, in which Diop made 6 clearances and 1 interception, while Ogbonna made 2 tackles and 6 clearances, as per WhoScored.

The result meant that the pair had been part of a defensive unit that had kept three Premier League clean sheets in a row, as per Transfermarkt, something West Ham didn’t manage in the entirety of last season.

Despite this, Mills pointed towards the pair when asked about West Ham’s weak link by Football Insider: “Centre-backs, I’m still not hugely convinced by Diop and Ogbonna, they will give you chances from time to time.

“It’s better than it was, when you go player for player against Manchester United, I think they probably just about shave it. Maybe six players to five, it’s quite close, but on paper maybe West Ham’s starting XI is a little bit better than Manchester United.

“That shows how much West Ham have improved but also the fall and demise of Manchester United.”

There have been times when the pair have been troubled out wide, such as when Diop bundled over Daniel James after the Welshman nipped in to steal the ball, but it feels harsh to criticise a defensive pairing who have been integral to three consecutive shutouts.

The first of those came against Norwich City, with Teemu Pukki who had scored in all of his Premier League games up until that point, while the second came despite the team being reduced to 10 men after Arthur Masuaku’s dismissal away against Aston Villa.

In addition, despite conceding five against Manchester City – a game Ogbonna was not involved in – there are now only five teams who have conceded less goals in the league than West Ham this season, as per the official Premier League website.

If the pairing who contributed to that is a weak link, then West Ham are in a very good position at the moment.

وتابع:” لا يزال لاعبا شابا، لكنه تطور كثيرا على المستوى الفني ومازال يتحسن بالإضافة إلى كونه هدافا”.

وأضاف في النهاية: “إذا انتهى به الأمر بالانتقال إلى ريال مدريد سيكون شيئا رائعا، لأنني أطمح دائما للعب مع أفضل اللاعبين بالعالم وكيليان هو أحد أفضل اللاعبين في أوروبا”.

Crystal Palace’s 25-man squad for the Premier League was revealed on Tuesday following the closing of the various European transfer windows on Monday, and it included a whopping and unusual five goalkeepers.

New boy Stephen Henderson joined Wayne Hennessey, Vicente Guaita, Joe Tupper and Dion-Curtis Henry in the list of names, 17 of which must be home-grown.

Of course that doesn’t include their U21 players and scholars who are named on a separate list.

While the Eagles’ summer transfer window may have ended on something of a high following the arrivals of Jordan Ayew – who has already hit some form – Victor Camarasa, James McCarthy and Gary Cahill, the south London outfit didn’t sort out two of their biggest issues with no striker or right-back arriving at SE25.

That caused a huge outburst of frustration from the Selhurst Park faithful on deadline day, although two successive Premier League wins in recent weeks including solid performances from Joel Ward and Ayew may have countered some of that anger – for now, at least.

The announcement does make the addition of Henderson look strange though given Palace had two other 21-year-old keepers available to them, who surely would have provided able back-up to Guaita and Hennessey if called upon.

The inclusion of five stoppers probably wouldn’t have happened if Palace got what they really looked to need during the summer, and while the wins against Manchester United and Aston Villa have been impressive, the latest squad list only goes to emphasise what we already knew.

Ultimately it wasn’t the best of summers, and the Eagles may well have some work to do in the market come 2020.

Arsenal finally confirmed their first major signings of the summer when they announced deals to bring Dani Ceballos and William Saliba to the Emirates.

The two represent the club’s second and third signings of the window following the arrival of Gabriel Martinelli, the young Brazilian talent from Ituano.

Saliba’s transfer saga went on for most of the transfer window and their was reported interest from Tottenham Hotspur, who tried to lure the French centre-back to the white half of North London, but any advances were rejected for the proposal of joining Arsenal.

Ceballos himself was also subject to Spurs interest, and it looked at one point like the deal would go ahead, but late interest from the Gunners and Emery, according to the player himself, sealed his loan move from Real Madrid.

The club’s signings were presented to fans via social media with their own announcement videos, but the two player’s posted their own unveilings as well, with Ceballos’ video in particular putting a smile on the faces of the Arsenal faithful.

The video shows a silhouette of Ceballos trying on a shirt, thought to be symbolising Tottenham’s, before taking it off and unveiling himself in a red and white top instead. As you can imagine, Arsenal fans were loving the announcement on Twitter…
