Crystal Palace fans don’t want Nathaniel Clyne as Aaron Wan-Bissaka replacement

[ad_pod ]

Some Crystal Palace fans on Twitter don’t want Nathaniel Clyne to return to the club to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka if he is to leave this summer.

Manchester United are currently in negotiations to sign the 21-year-old full-back who is currently away at the Under 21 European Championships with England.

The Eagles are thought to be holding out for £50million for the player and a deal is thought to be close between the two sides.

As a result, many of the Selhurst Park faithful have been looking at the possible replacements at right-back and Clyne’s name has surfaced after they were linked with the Liverpool man just last month.

The 28-year-old spent 13 years at the club between 1999-2012 and made 137 appearances for the first team – scoring once and assisting seven times, before making the move to Southampton.

Are Crystal Palace right to slap a £100m valuation on Wilfried Zaha’s head? Check out the video below to see why they are…

Since moving from the south coast he spent four years at Liverpool before spending a short spell on loan at Bournemouth until the end of last season.

But Palace fans do not seem at all pleased with the idea of him re-joining the team after seven years away.

Here are just some of the fans displaying their disappointment at the idea:

Look at him now: Jonathan Obika and Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur fans, remember the name Jonathan Obika?

Tipped for stardom and hailed as a hugely bright prospect when a part of the club’s glowing academy, you once awarded him with the prestigious ‘Breakthrough Award’ at the end of the 2008/09 campaign (BBC).

And, at the time, it would not have been too hard to see why.

The former England Under-20 international was the top goalscorer for the youth side a year prior, before making the step up into the first-team when Harry Redknapp decided he was good enough to get a couple of run outs for the side in European competition.

The Enfield-born Nigerian showed plenty of promise with his performances as he displayed immense power and an eye for goal that clearly got a number of supporters crazy over him.

However, there is a saying, and forgive me for crossing over to another sport for just a moment, but sometimes a player can appear to have ‘more clubs than Tiger Woods’ and, unfortunately for Obika, this is one that can be extremely relevant to how his career has panned out.

Whilst under contract with Spurs, the striker went on a total of 11 (ELEVEN?!) loan spells to try and get the regular football he needed to try and develop.

Yeovil Town must have really liked him as they had him on four separate occasions, Charlton Athletic had him twice, with Millwall, Crystal Palace, Peterborough United, Swindon Town and Brighton and Hove Albion all having the pleasure of having him just the once.

He was then sold to Swindon on a permanent deal in 2014 and spent three years with the Wiltshire outfit before making the move to Oxford United.

Indeed, life appears to have become more settled for the now 28-year-old over the past five years or so, however, he will not be able to get too comfortable and may have to call in the removal team once again.

Oxford Mail have recently confirmed that Obika will be leaving the club at the end of his present deal after a serious injury saw him spend the majority of the campaign on the sidelines (BBC).

Careful Jon, Tiger might be getting a little jealous about the number of clubs you are going to end up with!

Tottenham fans, how disappointed were you regarding how things turned out for Obika? Let us know below!

Barnsley: Stendel must do everything to keep Alex Mowatt at Oakwell

Whisper it quietly but Barnsley are now within touching distance of securing an instant return to the Championship.

A stunning transformation in fortunes since the arrival of Daniel Stendel last summer has seen their style of play completely change with one player, in particular, proving to be irrepressible in his midfield role.

Having joined the Tykes in January 2017, Alex Mowatt initially struggled to adapt to life at Oakwell with a number of under-par performances resulting him being loaned out to Oxford United last season. In his absence, Barnsley experienced a dismal campaign which culminated in the Yorkshire-based outfit being relegated from the second tier.

With uncertainties surrounding his future at the club, Mowatt benefited from a change in management as he was brought in from the cold by Siewert, a decision which has turned out to be a masterstroke by the German.

An outstanding level of consistency has seen the 24-year-old thrive in Barnsley’s system as not only has he been able to dictate the play alongside Cameron McGeehan but he has also produced valuable contributions in the final third.

Having scored in both of the club’s Easter weekend fixtures, the former Leeds United star has taken his tally to eight for the season which is a superb total for a deep-lying midfielder.

Although Cauley Woodrow may be grabbing all the headlines for Barnsley for his goal-scoring escapades, it could be argued that without the domineering presence of Mowatt, the club would not be in the position that they currently find themselves in.

Therefore, regardless of what division they are in next season, the Tykes simply cannot afford to let the £450,000-rated (according to Transfermarkt) hero leave in the summer. With a bright future ahead of him, Mowatt could become a modern-hero at the club over the coming years if he continues to develop as a player under the guidance of Siewert.

Given just how well he has played this season, it would not be at all surprising if he is subject to interest from elsewhere and so it is imperative that Barnsley resist any temptation to sell him when the transfer window opens in July.

What do you think Tykes fans? How important is it to keep Mowatt at Oakwell for the foreseeable future? Are you concerned about losing him in the summer? Get in touch below.

Missing again: United fans slam Pogba after Champions League performance

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United fans have once again pointed the finger at Paul Pogba after he put in a poor performance against Barcelona on Tuesday night.

The World Cup winner was wholly ineffective at Camp Nou and his performance hasn’t helped shake his reputation of going missing in big games.

United were well beaten by Barca on Tuesday with Lionel Messi putting on a majestic performance as the Red Devils were brushed aside 3-0.

The 6 foot 3 midfielder has often been the scapegoat for United after his club record move from Juventus in 2016 and fans have once again highlighted him as the player who didn’t perform up to standard.

The Frenchman has enjoyed a good season on the whole netting 15 goals in all competitions for his club whilst also providing 10 assists.

Numbers like these haven’t saved Pogba from a barrage of criticism from fans who believe he needs to step up when the stakes are high.

Here’s what United fans have been saying on Twitter…

Leeds United are interested in signing Luke Freeman

[ad_pod ]According to talkSPORT, Leeds United are interested in signing QPR playmaker Luke Freeman in the approaching summer transfer window.

What’s the story?

The Whites are apparently keen on the 26-year-old, whilst they’re also monitoring Loftus Road youngster Ebere Eze too.

Are fans being priced out of the Championship as well as the Premier League? The angry Bolton fan in the video below certainly believes so…

Freeman would certainly be the more high-profile arrival of the two though, and would arrive at Elland Road expecting to become a regular starter under Marcelo Bielsa.

The midfielder has been in fine form this season for the Rs, and has racked up eight goals and four assists in the Championship, as per Transfermarkt’s stats.

The Arsenal academy product would certainly be an interesting target for Leeds to pursue. Considering the Yorkshire club are currently in the thick of a title race, they may well be identifying transfer options with promotion on the cards, in which case, they would be looking to Freeman to make the step up to the Premier League with them.

The next Saiz?

Whether or not they go up, Leeds will still need a new playmaker this summer to replace Samu Saiz, who joined Spanish side Getafe on loan in January, and according to trusted journalist Phil Hay, has no interest in returning to Elland Road.

The 28-year-old Spaniard was a key player for the Whites. He brought a great deal of flair and creativity to the side, and his influence is something Bielsa must find a way to adequately replace ahead of the new campaign.

It could well be that Freeman has been earmarked as the man to take up Saiz’s berth.

Crystal Palace fans react as Craig Pawson is appointed referee for Brighton clash

[ad_pod ]

Crystal Palace host Brighton this weekend in what promises to be a hot-blooded clash. The two bitter rivals were buoyed by victories at the weekend and will fancy themselves on Saturday, although some Eagles fans are preparing for an uphill battle after learning that Craig Pawson has been appointed as referee.

The game promises to be a difficult one to manage and so, for whoever was named the man in the middle, they were always going to have their work cut out for them. But considering how his last job at Selhurst Park went, Pawson will feel under immense pressure to perform in front of the boisterous Palace crowd.

In charge of the Eagles’ clash with West Ham, Pawson was called into making difficult decisions on a few occasions – the 40-year-old penalised Vicente Guaita by awarding the visitors a penalty while he also booked Aaron Wan-Bissaka for what many believed was a well-timed challenge.

Watch how to cross the road like a boss with freestyler Ben Nuttall in the video below…

There will almost certainly be similar decisions to be made on Saturday and the eagle-eyed Selhurst Park faithful will be scrutinising Pawson’s every move, if there reactions to his appointment on Twitter are anything to go by, that is…

The Chalkboard: Snodgrass is a man rejuvenated at West Ham

[ad_pod ]

Robert Snodgrass has been a man rejuvenated at West Ham United this season.

Manuel Pellegrini has placed his faith in the Scotland international on Monday night and Snodgrass played 90 minutes, capping what has already been an exceptional season.

On the chalkboard

Snodgrass had previously struggled to make his mark in east London.

Signed from Hull City in 2017, for a fee of £10.2million, Snodgrass spent the 2017-18 season on loan at Aston Villa.

It appeared for some time that he would remain with the Championship club but he has been given a new lease of life under Pellegrini.

Check out the video below to see how Brazil fans reacted to being asked how Cristiano Ronaldo would perform for them in a hilarious prank by Pl>ymaker FC…

The Chilean has placed his faith in the 31-year-old, handing him 24 appearances in the Premier League, and he has scored two goals and provided three assists.

His selfless performance against Jurgen Klopp’s side, as he routinely dropped deep to create space for others, was one of his best of the season so far – he played four key passes and also had a pass completion rate of 83 per cent.

Emblematic of Pellegrini’s reign

Pellegrini has continually showed that he can improve players.

Lukasz Fabianski, in goal, is enjoying perhaps the best season of his career, Felipe Anderson has unlocked his potential to become a match-winner and Marko Arnautovic, before his flirtation with China, has proved that he is perhaps the best striker outside of the top six.

Snodgrass has been a major beneficiary too.

Under previous managers he may well have been sold on – he is 31 and there will be few opportunities to sell him on and receive a transfer fee.

But Pellegrini has kept the midfielder around and continues to reap the rewards of another smart decision in the dugout.
