Manchester United fans divided as Lukaku hints at Inter move

[ad_pod ]

Romelu Lukaku is a bit like Marmite. There’ll be those who point to him being a proven Premier League goal-getter and Belgium’s all-time record goal-scorer, and those who proclaim his as nothing more than a flat-track bully.

Indeed, after his disappointing showing at the Emirates against Arsenal back in March, Lukaku had the paltry record of only having scored once in 17 games for Manchester United against the Premier League’s proverbial ‘big six’.

Amid reports suggesting that the Belgian, who makes £180,000-a-week on his current deal, could be on his way out of Old Trafford this summer, Lukaku himself has revealed that he is a big admirer of new Inter boss Antonio Conte and described him as the “best manager in the world”.

After hearing the 26-year-old’s comments, United fans took to Twitter to voice their opinions on the matter, with people seemingly divided about whether he should stay or go.

Some seemed to suggest that selling him would be a “huge mistake” and urged him not to go, whilst many felt he had disrespected the club by openly praising another manager.

Indeed, certain Red Devils supporters appeared to claim that they would be relieved if Lukaku finally left the club, and bemoaned his poor first-touch as a main reason why he would never be able to cut it at United.

Check out some of the mixed reaction to Lukaku’s comments below:

Spurs should shelve reported pursuit of Manchester United star

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring Manchester United defender Eric Bailly ahead of a potential summer move, per the Daily Star.

What’s the word?

The Ivory Coast international has been far from ever-present at Old Trafford this season, playing just 18 times in all competitions.

He completed the 90 minutes in the Premier League just five times and the aforementioned report claims that he is now keen to leave the club.

Spurs are said to have targeted the centre-back as a potential acquisition this summer, while Arsenal are also credited with an interest.

United, of course, have been credited with an interest in Spurs centre-back Toby Alderweireld, who, per the report, has a £25million release clause in his contract this summer.

And Bailly could potentially be used as bait as United attempt to strike a cheaper deal.

The wrong man as a replacement

Bailly is completely the wrong type of defender to replace Alderweireld.

He does not offer the same ability to spray the ball around the place as the Belgium international nor does he have the same precision in the tackle, or the leadership and composure offered by “Toby”, as he is affectionally known by fans.

The ideal scenario for Spurs, of course, is that Alderweireld eventually decides to stay put and sign a new contract.

But with that appearing ever more unlikely, a replacement will need to be found; Spurs would be better off banking the £25m though and putting it toward that replacement as opposed to accepting a swap deal from United.

At the end of the day, Bailly just isn’t in Alderweireld’s league.

Wayne Bridge urges Ben Chilwell to leave Leicester

[ad_pod ]

In an interview with Goal, Wayne Bridge has claimed that Ben Chilwell can become England’s best left-back, but only if he leaves Leicester.

What’s the word?

Chilwell has had an exceptional season with the Foxes, nailing down a consistent place to become one of the first names on the teamsheet at the King Power.

The full-back has also become an England international, earning his first cap against Switzerland in September 2018.

And his performances in the Premier League have attracted the interest of Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, per The Telegraph. However, only this week, The Evening Standard reported that City had cooled their interest in the 22-year-old.

Following that news, former England international Bridge spoke to Goal, revealing that the Leicester man would become even better under Pep Guardiola and would become the best in his position that England has to offer. He said:

“He is very good and he has shown that at Leicester. I think if he does make that move then it will make him a better player, but I also feel if they do get him in and they do want him, that Pep will want to improve him and make him that player that fits them.

“It will make him a better player and then I think he could become England’s undisputed best left-back.”

Chilwell doesn’t need City

Given Brendan Rodgers’ track record of developing young players, Chilwell can still become England’s best if he remains at Leicester.

His progression with the Foxes has been exceptional so far and, although there is some logic to Bridge’s thinking, he can still become a phenomenal player with the Foxes.

Chilwell’s main competition at left back in the England squad is Luke Shaw but arguably he’s already found more consistency than his countryman.

Bridge knows what it takes to play at the top level, but things have changed since he played the game. Gareth Southgate doesn’t seem to pick his players based on who they play for which differs from England teams of old. Instead, he looks towards form and this will continue to benefit Chilwell if he stays in the Midlands.

Leicester stuttered under Claude Puel this season and, as a result, it’s likely they’ll be even better next season, especially if their prized left-back stays.

Silva’s admission proves Everton need another big summer to land Gomes

[ad_pod ]

Discussion over Andre Gomes’ future at Everton has dominated the club in recent months and Marco Silva’s recent admission on the subject suggests that Farhad Moshiri has a big role to play.

What’s the word?

Silva was asked about the future of two of his loan stars in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

The two players in questions are, of course, Andre Gomes and Kurt Zouma, and he made a cryptic comment on the former which suggests Moshiri needs to make a huge statement in the transfer market once again.

According to Paul Joyce, Northern Football Correspondent for The Times, Silva had this to say on Gomes: “He has not decided anything on his future. Now it up to us to show ambition. Nine months ago we believed in Andre more than other clubs.”

Moshiri must spend big once again

Silva’s comments regarding ambition suggest that Gomes wants to see tangible evidence of Everton’s desire to break the status quo in English football.

A player of his technical prowess ought to be playing in the Champions League or in the Europa League at the very least.

The manner in which he has resurrected his career at Goodison Park this season suggests that there will be no shortage of suitors who can offer European football to the creative midfielder and, unless Moshiri is willing to invest in players who can take the Toffees to that level, it’s unlikely that Gomes will be inclined to make his stay permanent.

If we’re reading between the lines it’s fair to say that Gomes has already communicated this to the Portuguese boss. His claim, per Daily Mail, that the “relationship [between him and Gomes] is really honest from the first day,” vindicates that assumption.

A permanent deal for Gomes would be a metaphorical game-changer for Everton. Players of his quality and prestigious footballing background are seldom convinced to sign for clubs who cannot offer European football, particularly when a Champions League finalist is expressing an interest in their signature.

Moshiri has already spent eye watering figures on transfer fees since arriving at the club, but if he wants to keep the Portuguese fan favourite on Merseyside he’s going to have to do that once again this summer.

Derby County fans on Twitter discuss financial results after club announcement

[ad_pod ]

Derby County fans were informed about the club’s financial results from the 2017/2018 season on Tuesday and those on Twitter are absolutely delighted with them.

Rams lapped up the news as it was confirmed that Derby had made £14.6 million in profits during the year, a drastic improvement on the £7.9 million loss of the previous campaign.

The sale of Pride Park to a separate company headed by County owner Mel Morris was the real catalyst for this gain after a worrying period of financial instability for the club.

Things are looking up for the side on the pitch as well as they are in the play-off places, chasing a return to the Premier League under Frank Lampard.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…

But it’s just off-the-pitch matters that supporters are concerned with at this second, with many rejoicing at the announcement and comments such as “we’re not going bust” and “Mel Morris is a true Rams legend” being thrown around Twitter.

See you next season: Tottenham fans react as Harry Kane injury is confirmed

[ad_pod ]

On Thursday evening, Tottenham Hotspur’s official website revealed that Harry Kane had suffered ‘a significant lateral ligament injury to his left ankle’ during Tuesday night’s Champions League clash with Manchester City.

Kane suffered the problem in a challenge with Fabian Delph and it seems unlikely that the 6 ft 2 striker will be able to play again this season.

Tottenham have not actually ruled the England captain out of the remainder of the campaign, but it seems improbable that he will be able to feature over the next month or so.

It is a bitter blow to the club’s chances of securing a top-four finish in the Premier League, in addition to their hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.

It is certainly not the news that the club’s supporters wanted and a number took to social media on Thursday evening to reveal their thoughts.

A selection of the Twitter reaction can be seen below:

Tottenham fans are not interested in signing Ayoze Perez

[ad_pod ]

Well, it would be fair to say that the Tottenham Hotspur fans do not want their club to move for Newcastle United attacker Ayoze Perez in this summer’s transfer window.

In a recent interview with Marca, Perez admitted that he will return to Spain before the end of his career, whilst he also discussed reported interest from the likes of Tottenham and Everton.

The 25-year-old was brilliant against Everton last weekend, scoring twice and providing an assist in Newcastle’s 3-2 win at St James’ Park.

In total, the forward has scored seven times and registered four assists in 33 appearances in all competitions for his English club this season.

The Tottenham fans have been discussing a potential move for the Spaniard and it would be fair to say that not too many are interested in chairman Daniel Levy signing Perez.

Bradford City fans welcome Gary Bowyer to the club

[ad_pod ]

Bradford City have announced that Gary Bowyer has become the club’s new manager, having initially agreed to take charge until the end of the season.

Bowyer certainly faces a tough task in saving the Bantams’ campaign, as the League One outfit are currently mired in the relegation zone. The 47-year-old is replacing David Hopkin in the Valley Parade hot seat, who resigned last week, as reported by the BBC.

Bowyer brings plenty of experience to his new position, having previously impressed in stints with Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool. Those previous roles have certainly armed him with plenty of League One experience.

He will have to call upon all of that experience to steer Bradford clear of relegation this season. The Bantams are in serious trouble and are also in poor form, having gone without victory in their last five league outings.

Bowyer’s appointment may restore some optimism at Valley Parade but this is still a club with a mountain to climb.

Following the announcement of Bowyer’s arrival, plenty of Bradford fans took to Twitter to welcome the new manager…
