A couple of former Premier League stars took to social media to pay tribute to the former Netherlands international after his special game.

Dirk Kuyt and Robin van Persie both sent tweets after the game to wish their former international teammate well in his retirement.

It seems to be quite an emotional occasion for the two Dutchmen, as van der Vaart was a key man in an unforgettable era for the national team.

The former Real Madrid star played in the team that reached the World Cup final back in 2010 – coming off the bench in their defeat against Spain.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Anthony Georgiou helped Cyprus record a 4-0 win over San Marino in Monday night’s Euro 2020 qualification match.

The 22-year-old did not start the international affair but was introduced at the break as Ran Ben Shimon’s side put three points on the board in routine fashion.

Georgiou was involved in Tottenham’s preparations for the 2019/20 campaign.

However, the defender was deemed surplus to requirements during the summer – joining Ipswich Town on loan until the start of 2020.

The versatile left-sided player has made three League One appearances for his loan club this term, and will be hoping to impress in the third tier with the view to returning to Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the January transfer window.

Tottenham’s official Twitter account drew attention to Georgiou’s performance for his country, which led to a few of the Premier League club’s fans taking to social media to reveal their thoughts.

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that attacking midfielder Marcus Edwards has joined Portuguese club Vitoria on a permanent deal.

Edwards scored twice in 25 Eredivisie appearances for Dutch outfit Excelsior during the 2018-19 campaign before returning to Spurs.

The 20-year-old has also turned out for Norwich City in the Championship, although he only made one appearance for the Canaries during a disappointing loan spell.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino compared to Edwards to Lionel Messi back in 2016.

It has not really happened for the attacker since making his debut during the 2016-17 campaign, though.

Edwards was contracted to the London club until the end of this season but has been allowed to leave early to secure a move to Vitoria.

The Tottenham fans have been on social media offering their views on the exit, and it would be fair to say that there are some mixed opinions on Edwards.

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a clutch of players in this transfer window.

Football FanCast sources understand that the club are in talks with Real Betis’ Giovani Lo Celso and Juventus’ Paulo Dybala over possible moves, but Ryan Sessegnon is the player most needed at the club.

Reports suggest that he is nearing a £20m move to the club in this transfer window.

Indeed, Danny Rose has not travelled with the club on their pre-season tour of Asia and has instead been left in London to seek a transfer.

Ben Davies has not travelled either due to injury and, if Rose departs, they will be left with just the Wales international as their senior left-back.

Jan Vertonghen can play there but he has been so exceptional at centre-back for the club that it would almost feel like a waste.

Bringing in Sessegnon, then, has to be a cornerstone of the club’s summer recruitment.

He is not just a left-back, of course, as he can also play as a left winger, supplementing the threat of Heung-min Son.

The most important part of the signing, though, is ensuring the club have depth at full-back.

Spurs have already sold Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid but there is a succession plan in place; FFC understands that Juan Foyth could move from centre-back to right-back, while they also have Kyle Walker-Peters and Serge Aurier.

For left-back, though, the bodies aren’t there. Beyond Davies, one has to look to the youth team for the next specialist left-back.

Acquiring Sessegnon’s signature is vital, then, if the club are to continue calling on full-backs or wing-backs, and Spurs are known for utilising width in their play.

In attacking midfield, where both Lo Celso and Dybala play, Spurs already have Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Erik Lamela, with all three holding the ability to feature at No.10.

Bringing in one or both of the Argentines would, of course, be a statement of significant intent.

But you can’t decorate a house without building it first. Having Sessegnon come in is an important part of that building job.

One of the biggest mistakes Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham United made during the 2018/2019 Premier League season was not getting any points on the board early on.

Facing Liverpool away, AFC Bournemouth at home, Arsenal away and Wolverhampton Wanderers at home, the Hammers suffered four defeats in their first four league matches under Pellegrini.

Whilst they would recover to steer themselves away from the danger area and back up into mid-table to challenge for European football in the next few months, it felt like the Irons were always playing catch-up.

Had they been able to pick up a win or two – or maybe even a draw or two – in those opening quartet of encounters things could have been very different, and they could have really pushed on to make that seventh spot their own and not barely scraped the top half. Who knows? The east Londoners may have even challenged for the top six.

That’s why members of the Claret & Blue Army would have been relieved to see that their team has the opportunity to reverse that huge mistake early in the 2019/2020 campaign.

This is after the full fixture list for next season’s Premier League was announced early on Thursday morning with the Hammers facing a much easier start, on paper at least, this time around.

Whilst West Ham have been given one of the hardest fixtures on the calendar first up, the visit of champions Manchester City to London Stadium, things do get a lot easier after that.

A matchday two trip to Brighton & Hove Albion follows and you have to feel that after another summer of spending, Pellegrini’s team will be expecting nothing less than a positive result on the south coast.

Then the club’s next visit will be a lot closer to home, Watford, where they will be feeling confident after a 4-1 victory at Vicarage Road on the final day of 2018/2019.

Next will be perhaps the easiest of the lot in the first four for the Irons – a home clash with newly-promoted Championship champions Norwich City.

Anyone would take these four opening fixtures over the ones faced by Pellegrini in his return season in English football on any day of the week.

And if the Hammers can pick up at least a few points before the September international break in contrast to last term, they will be well on their way to a much-improved second campaign under the veteran Chilean gaffer.

Rangers fans have been fearing for a while what the summer may bring fr Afrddo Morelos. The fan base will be split on this one, as they attempt to weigh up the positive impact of the Colombian’s goals against the negatives of the points his discipline has cost them. Either way, he’s being linked away as Newcastle United are interested in the hitman.

The t150 mile trip from Glasgow down to Newcastle be one that Morelos finds himself making this summer, but it would be more than just a move Southwest, as it would take him from the Scottish Premier League to the English Premier League, the most watched league in the world where he could really make or break his career. Nothing yet, though is set in stone.

The links for this move have come from the often inaccurate Don Balon, however, as The Daily Record has reiterated that the Magpies want Morelos it has made the story more believable, and as we all know in football absolutely anything can happen, including this. It could be a switch, though, that relies on Newcastle being taken over by Sheikh Khaled, the UAE royal who wants to purchase the club.

Morelos would certainly be missed for his goals, but with five red cards this season, Steven Gerrard should be happy to offload him. If the fee being reported is correct then it will see the Glasgow club become £20 million richer, and with the kind of money it wouldn’t take long for Stevie G and the Gers to get over the Colombian’s exit and get to rebuilding, so they should certainly move him on if the rumours prove true.

What’s the word, then?

With the Cottagers unable to maintain their Premier League status in 2018/2019, Seri will be wanting to stay at the highest level with Monaco of Ligue 1 also interested in securing his signature.

However, if the Eagles want to be the club to keep the central midfielder in the division, then it may have to be on loan as there’s every chance Scott Parker’s men could be back in the top flight themselves in a year’s time.

Seri, a 23-time international with the Ivory Coast, arrived at Craven Cottage last summer as part of the team’s ill-fated pre-season spend from Nice.

Milivojevic’s perfect long-term partner

It’s not hard to see the potential of the bright Seri being Luka Milivojevic’s long-term partner at Selhurst Park if they manage to rescue him from the Championship.

It seems like the Serbian is the only constant in the midfield of Hodgson’s men at the moment with everyone from Cheikhou Kouyate to Max Meyer partnering him at one point during 2018/2019.

Seri’s first campaign in English football didn’t exactly go to plan, and he largely failed to make the impact that would have been expected from him.

However, the midfielder has shown his class for Nice previously and is more agile than Milivojevic, meaning his overall game would complement his nicely as he would be able to break forward while the Serbian plays a holding role.

The fact that the Eagles would get to try the African on for size before committing to a permanent deal first is excellent. That way, if things don’t quite work out for Seri in south London Palace have lost nothing.
