Rangers: Losing Alfredo Morelos may not be the disaster that the Gers think

Rangers fans have been fearing for a while what the summer may bring fr Afrddo Morelos. The fan base will be split on this one, as they attempt to weigh up the positive impact of the Colombian’s goals against the negatives of the points his discipline has cost them. Either way, he’s being linked away as Newcastle United are interested in the hitman.

The t150 mile trip from Glasgow down to Newcastle be one that Morelos finds himself making this summer, but it would be more than just a move Southwest, as it would take him from the Scottish Premier League to the English Premier League, the most watched league in the world where he could really make or break his career. Nothing yet, though is set in stone.

The links for this move have come from the often inaccurate Don Balon, however, as The Daily Record has reiterated that the Magpies want Morelos it has made the story more believable, and as we all know in football absolutely anything can happen, including this. It could be a switch, though, that relies on Newcastle being taken over by Sheikh Khaled, the UAE royal who wants to purchase the club.

Morelos would certainly be missed for his goals, but with five red cards this season, Steven Gerrard should be happy to offload him. If the fee being reported is correct then it will see the Glasgow club become £20 million richer, and with the kind of money it wouldn’t take long for Stevie G and the Gers to get over the Colombian’s exit and get to rebuilding, so they should certainly move him on if the rumours prove true.

Transfer Focus: Crystal Palace eyeing loan signing of Jean Michael Seri of Fulham

[ad_pod ]According to a Tweet from The Guardian’s Deputy News Editor Ed Aarons, Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace are eyeing the loan signing of Jean Michael Seri of Fulham.

What’s the word, then?

With the Cottagers unable to maintain their Premier League status in 2018/2019, Seri will be wanting to stay at the highest level with Monaco of Ligue 1 also interested in securing his signature.

However, if the Eagles want to be the club to keep the central midfielder in the division, then it may have to be on loan as there’s every chance Scott Parker’s men could be back in the top flight themselves in a year’s time.

Seri, a 23-time international with the Ivory Coast, arrived at Craven Cottage last summer as part of the team’s ill-fated pre-season spend from Nice.

Milivojevic’s perfect long-term partner

It’s not hard to see the potential of the bright Seri being Luka Milivojevic’s long-term partner at Selhurst Park if they manage to rescue him from the Championship.

It seems like the Serbian is the only constant in the midfield of Hodgson’s men at the moment with everyone from Cheikhou Kouyate to Max Meyer partnering him at one point during 2018/2019.

Seri’s first campaign in English football didn’t exactly go to plan, and he largely failed to make the impact that would have been expected from him.

Who is your club’s worst ever January signing? The Pl>ymaker FC squad have picked theirs in the video below and they didn’t disappoint…

However, the midfielder has shown his class for Nice previously and is more agile than Milivojevic, meaning his overall game would complement his nicely as he would be able to break forward while the Serbian plays a holding role.

The fact that the Eagles would get to try the African on for size before committing to a permanent deal first is excellent. That way, if things don’t quite work out for Seri in south London Palace have lost nothing.

Our little secret: Leeds fans worried that Shackleton will draw interest

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United fans on Twitter want to keep Jamie Shackleton’s talent a secret after he was called up to the England U20 squad.

The midfielder has long been regarded as one of the top prospects at Elland Road, and now that he has the chance to show off his talents on a big stage, fans are worried that he will be the subject of interest from other clubs.

Good performances for the England youth teams have often been the catalyst for a player getting a move to a big club, and Leeds supporters are concerned that Shackleton will impress the scouts who will inevitably be watching these games.

The teenager has been brilliant when he appeared for the Whites this season, but he was used sparingly so there hasn’t been much speculation about his future.

The youngster has shown glimpses that he is capable of playing at the top level one day, and the fanbase have every right to be worried that he will be poached if he performs well for the England U20s.

Here’s what the Elland Road faithful have been saying on Twitter…

The Chalkboard: Ajax to face a hurdle they’re yet to overcome in Champions League

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat at their new stadium was described by Mauricio Pochettino as “painful” as he reflected on his side’s semi-final loss to Ajax on Tuesday night. Despite the poor home result coupled with the Dutch side’s wonderful performance, there remains a huge hurdle for the Eredivisie leaders to cross that they’re yet to face in this wonderful campaign of theirs.

The Chalkboard

Spurs hosted Ajax at their shiny new stadium with real hope that they could reach a Champions League final.

After thirty minutes though, the tie could have been over with Ajax 1-0 up thanks to Donny van de Beek giving his side the lead, however many chances were missed to make the result more convincing.

An unfortunate injury to Jan Vertonghen encouraged Pochettino to switch from a 3-4-3 to a 4-2-3-1 with Moussa Sissoko in the heart of midfield improving his side dramatically as the game went on.

Despite the boost that came with Frenchman’s presence, Spurs couldn’t fashion any real clear-cut chances and travel to Amsterdam on the back-foot.

Uncharted territory

There is real hope for Tottenham, though, besides the fact the gap is only one goal. Ajax will enter this second leg facing two things they’ve never had to do before in this impressive Champions League run: firstly, play the second leg at home, and secondly, defend a first leg lead.

Some will feel Tottenham are as good as out having seen Ajax outplay the North Londoners in their own backyard after registering incredible results at Juventus and Real Madrid as well. However, for all their wonderful attacking intent and intricate football in their previous rounds, the Dutch side were ultimately forced to play on the front foot after poor results in their first legs, both at home.

Despite impressive displays, Erik ten Hag’s young group were beaten 2-1 at home by the competition’s champions Real Madrid and were held to a 1-1 draw by the Italian giants – two results that would have seen them go through had Ajax not performed in the reverse fixture.

It’s going to be fascinating to see how the likes of Frenkie De Jong, Matthijs de Light and David Neres approach the second half of this tie; whether they’ll attack and dominate, or whether they’ll protect their lead knowing Spurs need to score and will undoubtedly come forward themselves.

For the first time, Ajax find themselves with a decision to make about how to approach this game, whereas in previous rounds, the second leg task has been somewhat handed to them, with no option but to play expansively and go for the win.

Yet another error: Tottenham fans moan about Hugo Lloris after last-gasp Anfield clanger

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to criticise Hugo Lloris, after the 32-year-old Frenchman’s inability to hold a tame Mohamed Salah effort saw Spurs concede a last-gasp winner against Liverpool at Anfield.

It is not the first time this season that the French international has made a mistake, most notably against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League, and fans are beginning to run out of patience with the former Lyon stopper.

The North London Derby of 2008 may never be matched for drama. Lewis from Norwich City Central explains why it’s his all time favourite derby in the video below…

Salah’s effort was weak, as the Egyptian attempted to make something of a high, lofted ball. The 26-year-old nodded towards Lloris, who spilled the ball onto Toby Alderweireld before both men watched it agonisingly trickle over the line.

It was certainly an effort that Lloris could’ve held onto, and it is another error that has cost his teammates in a game where they were arguably the better side – as captain, he should be a key figure, but he is proving to be a huge liability.

Let’s see what the Tottenham supporters on Twitter have been saying about the howler…

Huddersfield fans on Twitter react to Steve Mounie’s unlikely international heroics

[ad_pod ]

Bemused Huddersfield Town fans on Twitter have been reacting as striker Steve Mounie became his nation’s unlikely hero at the weekend.

The 6 ft 3 frontman’s international heroics fired Benin to the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt with victory over Togo to finish second behind Algeria in their qualifying group.

Mounie netted the winning goal in the 2-1 triumph, the strike that got the nation to the tournament, much to the confusion of Terriers supporters on social media.

For Huddersfield, the forward has hardly been able to hit a barn door this season, netting just twice in 26 Premier League appearances as the club look consigned to relegation back to the Championship with matches running out.

One frustrated fan simply stated “why can’t he do that for Huddersfield?”. Meanwhile, others comically expressed their disbelief that the striker can actually score and ironically questioned the credibility of the claims of Mounie’s historic winner.

QPR fans slaughter Darnell Furlong on Twitter

[ad_pod ]

QPR fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat at the hands of Rotherham, whose victory over the Hoops was their first in 68 years, on Wednesday night, with Bright Osayi-Samuel’s late equaliser rendered irrelevant by an injury-time Semi Ajayi header.

The away side were undoubtedly indebted to Ajayi, whose 95th minute winner broke QPR hearts and doubled his earlier strike, although Steve McClaren and co can feel that the loss was very avoidable.

The Loftus Road outfit might not have put in the performance they would have surely liked to but looked certain to have rescued a point from the clash late on – thereafter, it was vital that the Rangers players kept their heads and didn’t do anything stupid.

Watch how to cross the road like a boss with freestyler Ben Nuttall in the video below…

Unfortunately, Darnell Furlong didn’t seem to get the message – the 23-year-old gave away a silly free-kick in the dying seconds of added time and the subsequent delivery into the box was met with no mistake by Ajayi.

It’s safe to say that QPR fans on Twitter were fuming with the 5 foot 11 defender, not just for that vital error, but his all-round poor performance…

Crystal Palace fans slam Wayne Hennessey after nervous FA Cup performance

[ad_pod ]

Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after watching Wayne Hennessey put in an uncomfortable performance against Doncaster in the FA Cup fifth round.

The Wales international, who was making a rare start having lost his place to summer arrival Vicente Guaita, looked nervous throughout.

Hennessey miscontrolled a pass from Scott Dann to give away a needless corner, and looked shaky with his passing and touch when having the ball played back to him.

The former Wolves goalkeeper also parried a few shots that looked easier to smother, and whilst he did manage to keep a clean sheet, he made his own job harder than it needed to be at times.

Perhaps it was the uneven surface at the Keepmoat Stadium that caused these issues, but after seeing him make a number of errors in the past, Crystal Palace fans on Twitter didn’t have much sympathy for a man they don’t like seeing in between the sticks…

Rangers fans have high hopes for Nathan Young-Coombes

Rangers Under-17’s booked their spot in the semi-finals of the ALKASS International Cup courtesy of a 7-0 win over Ecoile Sportive du Sahel on Sunday.

Chris McKee and Nathan Young-Coombes both scored hat-tricks for Rangers and it seems that the latter has caught the attention of the club’s supporters.

Young-Coombes only joined Rangers from Chelsea in January, with the 16-year-old signing a contract with the Gers until the summer of June 2021.

Pl>ymaker FC’s Matchday with Max caught up with Jamaica’s women’s team. See what happened when he met the history makers in the video below…

It would be fair to say that the Rangers supporters think a lot of the teenager, with many taking to social media to lavish praise on his performance at the weekend.

Indeed, one fan even claimed that Young-Coombes should be given the nod in the first team ahead of fellow January arrival Jermain Defoe.

It seems unlikely that the teenager will be making his first-team debut any time soon, but he will surely be in the mind of head coach Steven Gerrard moving forward.
