Everton manager news on Mourinho

Some Everton fans have been left fuming over some manager news that has emerged involving Jose Mourinho.

As per The Daily Mirror, the AS Roma manager has emerged as a potential candidate to take over from Rafa Benitez, should he be sacked at Goodison Park.

Supporters of the Merseyside club vented their anger towards the Spaniard as well as the board after their 4-1 defeat at home to Liverpool in midweek, and Benitez is now under pressure following a run of eight matches in the Premier League without a win.

Now, the board could turn to Mourinho should they wish to pull the plug on his reign.

Of course, Mourinho’s success in English football, in where he has won the top-flight title three times with Chelsea, is a factor as to why the board are looking at him as a potential successor, but he has tailored off in recent years, having left both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United midway through the season outside of the UEFA Champions League spots.

Toffees supporters may not be a fan of his pragmatic approach to games either, and so it is understandable to see why a fair few fumed when they read the news.

Rangers closing in on Danilho Doekhi deal

Jordan Campbell has dropped an update on Glasgow Rangers’ bid to bring Danilho Doekhi to Ibrox in the January transfer window.

What’s the talk?

In a recent article for The Athletic, the journalist revealed that, following the pre-contract signing of John Souttar, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side are also in a strong position to secure a deal for the Vitesse Arnhem centre-back this month, with the Gers manager keen to bolster his numbers in the heart of defence prior to the closure of the transfer market.

In his piece, Campbell wrote: “Rangers are also keen on Vitesse captain Danilho Doekhi and are in a strong position to land the Dutch defender.”

Fans will be buzzing

Doekhi has been impressive in the Netherlands this season, and Van Bronckhorst is in rather desperate need of defensive reinforcements ahead of the restart of the Premiership season given the injuries to Filip Helander and Leon Balogun out, as well as the latter and Connor Goldson being out of contract at the end of the current campaign. Therefore, the news that Gers appear to be closing in on a deal for the 23-year-old is sure to have left the Ibrox faithful buzzing.

Indeed, over his 14 Eredivisie appearances this term, the £2.7m-rated Vitesse defender has helped his side to keep three clean sheets and scored one goal, as well as making 1.6 interceptions, two tackles, 3.6 clearances and 39.1 passes per game and winning 65% of his duels.

These returns have seen the £3.4k-per-week centre-back average a SofaScore match rating of 7.01, ranking him as Vitesse’s joint-seventh best performer in the Dutch top flight.

As such, it is clear for all to see that Doekhi would make a fantastic addition to Van Bronckhorst’s current options in the heart of his defence at Ibrox. The prospective arrival of the 23-year-old would undoubtedly provide Rangers’ chances of going on to retain the Premiership title with a considerable boost, an outcome which would delight everyone involved with the club.

Celtic: Mourinho approached for manager job

Celtic’s season is done and dusted but for the hierarchy at Parkhead, they cannot afford to rest on their laurels.

This has been a hopeless campaign full of mediocrity and until the Bhoys hire a new manager, they will only continue to falter.

What’s the word?

The Hoops have been on the lookout for a new boss for the best part of eight weeks now.

It has been a long two months since Neil Lennon resigned with a number of coaches linked since.

The biggest is undoubtedly Jose Mourinho. After being sacked by Tottenham last week, it became apparent that Celtic were interested in luring him to Glasgow.

Those reports have since been backed up by journalist Duncan Castles. Speaking on the Transfer Window podcast, he opened up about the offers the Portuguese has received.

Castles began: “My information is that the first of those approaches came from Celtic Football Club who are in need of significant managerial change and are in need of a change of fortune to get themselves back on top of the heap in Scotland after Steven Gerrard guided Rangers to the Scottish title by a significant margin.

He continued: “My understanding is that his response to that approach from Celtic – not ready to coach now. There have been other offers.”

Exciting news

Roy Keane, Eddie Howe or Mourinho? For many, there will only be one answer to that question; the latter.

The self-proclaimed special one is an icon of the sport and if Celtic are looking to target managers of his calibre, it’s evident the hierarchy do actually know what they’re doing.

Not only that, but it also demonstrates they have plenty of ambition for the Hoops going forward.

Celtic supporters have been keen to protest against the club’s ownership this season and Desmond has had to answer his critics defiantly.

He won’t sell his shares was the message last month when he held a Q&A with the club’s official media channels.

Mourinho was always going to be more of a fantasy than a realistic appointment, though, so it’s no surprise he came back with the fact he’s not ready to coach them.

Though, it does suggest that Celtic have other irons in the fire. For the last month, the only name who has even looked close to the Parkhead dugout is Howe.

His demands have been plentiful, however. He wants to bring the “kitchen sink” with him according to one source while he looks set to keep them waiting until the summer.

This is the type of behaviour you’d expect from someone like Mourinho, not a coach who has only managed Bournemouth and Burnley throughout his career.

It’s exciting, therefore, that Desmond is considering other options.

Spurs: Conte handed huge boost

Tottenham Hotspur will face a Brentford side in the Premier League this evening that doesn’t include Ethan Pinnock, with the centre-back ruled out with a hamstring injury.

What’s the latest?

As quoted by West London Sport, Bees manager Thomas Frank said to the media: “Ethan will, hopefully, be only a couple of weeks, so that means Manchester United is borderline, but let’s see.”

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-levy-conte-paratici-thfc” title= “Read the latest Spurs news!”]

The 28-year-old limped off in the first half of the west London outfit’s 2-1 win at Watford last Saturday whilst fellow defender Zanka will also be sidelined with Spurs set to face a side with limited resources at the back.

Conte will be buzzing

After last weekend’s slip up against Brighton, Tottenham can no longer afford to make mistakes if they are to secure Champions League football for next season with just six matches left this term.

Spurs have dropped out of the top four temporarily after Arsenal’s 3-1 victory over Manchester United, although the Lilywhites will return to fourth place with victory at the Brentford Community Stadium.

However, their place is hanging by a thread with goal difference the only factor separating the two sides if Conte’s side are victorious at Brentford.

Therefore, the prospect of playing a side struggling for options at the back is certainly a huge boost for the north London outfit.

The Bees are in inspired form though, winning five of their last six which has ultimately extinguished any nerves regarding an instant return to the Championship.

Moreover, Pinnock has settled into the top flight expertly, playing in 32 of the Bees’ 33 league matches, keeping seven clean sheets in the process.

After Brentford, Spurs face three tricky tasks with Leicester at home as well as a trip to Liverpool whilst a home North London Derby that could ultimately decide who between them and Arsenal take fourth place.

As a result, victory this evening is crucial which means that Brentford’s injury woes will certainly leave Conte buzzing.

Liverpool fans flock to Kalajdzic admission

Many Liverpool fans have been left to flock to a transfer admission from Sasa Kalajdzic.

Speaking to Sport Bild, the Stuttgart striker admitted that he would find it hard to turn down a move to the Anfield faithful should the Merseyside club come in with a bid in the summer window.

Kalajdzic has scored no fewer than 13 goals and made a further four assists in 26 games in total over all competitions so far in the 2020/21 term (Transfermarkt), and has a whopping six-foot-six-inch frame, which would certainly offer Jurgen Klopp’s team something a little bit different in the attacking third of the pitch.

Given that he is so tall, the Austria international should have no problems at all whatsoever coping with the physical demands of the Premier League, and so he may be a player that the Reds should certainly want to keep an eye on.

Wolves transfer update on Mir

Many Wolves fans have been left to flock to a transfer update involving Rafa Mir.

As per Super Deporte, the striker has rejected a contract offer from the Midlands club, who have put a price tag of €15m (£12.9m) for his signature.

There are a lot of teams that are thought to be interested in signing him in the summer window, namely Las Palmas, Nottingham Forest, Huesca and Valencia.

Considering that he has come off the back of a very good 2020/21 season, scoring no fewer than 16 goals in 39 matches in total across all competitions (Transfermarkt), some members of the Molineux faithful feel as if they should be keeping Mir, especially as a potential back-up striker given the head injury that ruled Raul Jimenez out of a lot of the last campaign.

However, he has only made a mere four appearances for WWFC’s senior side, and at 23 years of age, other Wanderers fans feel as if they could get good value from his sale.

Spurs: Dennis Cirkin’s time to shine?

Tottenham Hotspur return from the international break with a few injuries on their plate.

It is thought that Ben Davies and Matt Doherty, who both returned home early this week through injury, will not make the trip to St James’ Park on Sunday to face Newcastle. Whilst Sergio Reguilon is expected to be fit enough to travel, Jose Mourinho may not want to risk him so soon after recovering from another recent problem.

He missed five league games with a muscle issue in early February and was withdrawn early against Aston Villa last time out. Sky Sports believe he remains a doubt for this weekend, so the Spurs boss may need to turn to another young prospect, having trusted Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga at Villa Park…

On the Chalkboard

Given that game-time has been given to the likes of Dane Scarlett and Alfie Devine this season, it’s perhaps a surprise to not see Dennis Cirkin make his senior bow thus far, but there cannot be a better opportunity to do so than now.

The 18-year-old left-back quickly emerged as one of Spurs’ next future stars following the arrival of Mourinho, as he was one of the very first academy products to be praised by the ‘Special One.’

“OK, he’s 17, but he’s a kid with a lot of quality, and I look forward to bringing him to train with us, and to help his development,” explained Mourinho just two weeks after his appointment in north London.

The Athletic have described him as ‘energetic’ and ‘strong in the tackle’ which fits the bill for the sort of full-back Mourinho would love in his squad, so it’s no surprise he was drawn straight to Cirkin when moving to N17.

The teenager has drawn comparisons to Ben Chilwell as a “modern and athletic” full-back and has even been tipped for international stardom one day.

“I think he can go all the way to the top; I’m talking full England international and Premier League left-back for Tottenham,” said The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare on the ‘Next Big Thing’ podcast.

In 2018, he managed to keep one of the world’s most valuable youngsters at bay, recording a clean sheet against Barcelona and Ansu Fati, who in January this year was rated at €108.4m (£92m) by CIES Football Observatory despite only being 18 years old.

Given the likely concerns at left-back on Sunday, Mourinho must be true to his word and finally unleash Cirkin for his senior Spurs debut.

Palmer expects Diagne to leave West Brom

Former West Brom midfielder Carlton Palmer has told Football FanCast in an exclusive interview that he expects Mbaye Diagne and the Baggies to part ways this summer.

Diagne, who joined West Brom from Galatasaray at the end of January, is only at the Hawthorns on loan, but the Midlands club do have an option to buy.

However, following West Brom’s relegation to the Championship, the 29-year-old striker is now being linked with other Premier League sides.

According to Football Insider, the likes of Wolves and Crystal Palace are currently interested, with his parent club said to have slapped an £8m price tag on his head.

When asked by FFC whether there was any chance of Diagne remaining at West Brom next season, Palmer said:

“I think a lot of the problem is going to be the salaries. Remember the Premier League salaries, even though the Championship salaries are good, the Premier League salaries are a lot higher than the Championship.

“Will West Brom think that they can get somebody in a lot cheaper to get them promotion?

“I’m sure there’ll be some movement because these players, you know, if you’ve got ambitions of international honours and whatever, you need to be playing in the top league.”

While Diagne has not been at his prolific best since joining West Brom, he has shown glimpses of being a very capable forward in the Premier League.

The Senegal international has delivered a couple of big goals, bagging in a 1-1 draw with Manchester United and that incredible 5-2 win over Chelsea.

Sanchez surprised Bruce hasn’t managed MUFC

Former Premier League manager Lawrie Sanchez has exclusively told Football FanCast that he’s surprised Steve Bruce has never been given the opportunity to manage Manchester United.

The 60-year-old is approaching 1000 games in management in England during a career that spans over four decades.

Bruce has won promotion to the Premier League on numerous occasions, taken Hull to an FA Cup final and last month won his first ever Manager of the Month award in the top-flight.

But despite a glistening managerial career, Bruce has never been in the running to manage the Red Devils.

Bruce won 12 major trophies with United during his playing career, including three FA Cups, and was part of the side that won the first ever Premier League crown back in 1993.

And given that he was a popular face with the United faithful, Sanchez told Football FanCast that he’s surprised Bruce has never managed the club:

“You forget what an influential figure he was at United. Him coming to United probably won them the league. Him and Pallister as centre-halves were the final piece of the jigsaw.

“As much as people write about Cantona and Schmeichel, but for Bruce and Pallister they wouldn’t have won the league.

“I am surprised that Bruce, who has so many games under his belt, wasn’t given a chance at the United job.”

Sheff Wed fans hail Bailey Peacock-Farrell

A number of Sheffield Wednesday supporters have been hailing goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell, following his penalty save for Northern Ireland.

The Owls have made a positive start to their League One campaign, even though losing away to Morecambe last weekend was disappointing.

There has been much to admire about Darren Moore’s side and Peacock-Farrell has undoubtedly been one of the brightest additions to the squad.

[freshpress-quiz id=“359326”]

He arrived on loan from Burnley during the summer transfer window and immediately impressed, making one spectacular penalty save in the win at Rotherham United.

It appears as though Peacock-Farrell is equally influential at international level, however, with the 24-year-old also keeping out a spot-kick in Northern Ireland’s 4-1 win away to Lithuania on Thursday night.
