Many Wolves fans praise Hwang after double

Lots of Wolves fans have been praising summer signing Hwang Hee-chan after he scored his first brace for the club in the 2-1 win over Newcastle United on Saturday.

The 25-year-old added to his goal at Watford a few weeks ago with a double at Molineux as Wolves earned their first home win under Bruno Lage with victory over Newcastle.

The loanee scored two similar goals, linking up well with Raul Jimenez before tucking the ball past Karl Darlow either side of Jeff Hendrick’s strike from distance before the break.

After losing four of their opening five games under Lage, Wolves have experienced a surge in form in the past two weeks, beating Southampton 1-0 last weekend before seeing off Steve Bruce’s side yesterday.

With Hwang now Wolves’ top goalscorer this season, the immediate impact of the on-loan RB Leipzig forward has already had many fans licking their lips over his performances, with some calling for executive chairman Jeff Shi to make the loan more permanent.

Liverpool linked with Erling Haaland move

Liverpool and both Manchester clubs are reportedly interested in making a move for Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland next summer.

The Lowdown: Haaland emerges as world star

Few footballers in the world are currently more highly-rated than the Norwegian predator, with the 21-year-old producing outrageous numbers for Dortmund.

The £117m-rated striker has scored 63 goals in just 64 appearances for the Bundesliga giants, also netting eight times in 13 caps for Norway. Indeed, only Kylian Mbappe is valued at a higher amount by Transfermarkt, an indication of Haaland’s standing in the global game.

The Latest: Liverpool tipped to make move

The 21-year-old has remained at Dortmund for the time being, but according to Diario Madridsta, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City could all be willing to rival Real Madrid for his signature.

Haaland’s current deal doesn’t expire until the summer of 2024, so a huge fee would likely be required to snap him up next summer, especially with his exceptional goal tallies.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-liverpool-transfer-news-2/” title=”Latest Liverpool transfer news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=“none”]

The Verdict: Highly unlikely

In truth, it is extremely difficult to see Liverpool signing Haaland, given his probable wage demands (he is already on £141,000 per week) and the amount he would cost.

The Reds simply don’t have the same financial clout as the two Manchester clubs, both of whom spent big this summer, and unless someone like Mohamed Salah was to move on and free up funds and a place in Jurgen Klopp’s team, it is hard to see this move happening.

This summer has shown Liverpool’s limitations in the transfer market, buying in only one player for £36m, and how their rivals can pay huge wages, and it is difficult to see the situation changing any time soon.

Tom English relays ‘extraordinary’ RFC news

Taking to Twitter, BBC Scotland reporter Tom English has relayed some ‘extraordinary’ news out of Ibrox as Rangers CEO Stewart Robertson makes a controversial call.

The Lowdown: Rangers make controversial call…

Amid both Rangers and their Glasgow rivals’ opening Europa League group games on Thursday evening, something of a controversial incident emerged as Robertson made a contentious decision.

Indeed, the Gers chief opted to turn away both former Celtic manager Neil Lennon and BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton (a former Hoops player) from working at an Ibrox studio due to their presence apparently posing a ‘security risk’.

Relaying the news on social media, English has dropped his take on the unique debacle.

The Latest: Tom English relays Rangers news and drops claim…

The BBC Scotland journalist has branded this development as ‘extraordinary’ whilst also pointing out Rangers’ strange belief that pundits, of all people, are a risk to security at Ibrox.

Relaying Sutton’s message on Twitter speaking out over the issue, English gave this commentary: “Rangers saying that pundits are a security risk. Pundits! This is extraordinary.”

The Verdict: Robertson has the right…

Opting to turn away both Lennon and Sutton comes as a controversial and unexpected call, but if the Gers CEO believes it is in the best interests of safety at Ibrox, he has every right to do so.

The debate will probably continue over this next week but Robertson’s decision to exclude both pundits arguably shouldn’t be blown out of proportion on this big of a scale.

Everton transfer update on Hoppe

Some Everton fans have been left buzzing as a transfer update emerged on Matthew Hoppe.

As per Bild, the Goodison Park faithful could sign the striker for as little as €4.5m (£3.8m) before the summer window ends, with FC Schalke in need of raising funds following their relegation from the Bundesliga in the 2020/21 season.

Despite his team’s relegation, Hoppe had a fine individual campaign, scoring six goals and adding one assist in 22 games in the German top flight (Transfermarkt), and was described as a player with ‘real quality’ by manager Dimitrios Grammozis back in March.

The USA international could turn out to be a very decent back-up striker to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and at just £3.8m in today’s market, would seemingly be a bit of a steal.

Bergwijn let Spurs down vs Wolves

Tottenham made it two wins from two in the Premier League as they beat Wolves 1-0 at Molineux on Sunday, following on from their win over champions Manchester City last weekend.

Spurs now have maximum points and zero goals conceded from their first two games, despite last season’s top goalscorer and creator Harry Kane missing the first and coming off the bench in the second.

Dele Alli opened the scoring from the spot after Jose Sa brought him to the ground in the box. His coolly dispatched penalty ended up winning the match for Tottenham, with no other goals coming in the game.

One player who struggled on the pitch for Spurs was Steven Bergwijn. The Dutch winger was given the nod to start the match despite flattering to deceive against Manchester City as he messed up a number of counter-attacking opportunities versus Pep Guardiola’s side.

Nuno Santo put his faith in the former PSV man to rectify his mistakes against Wolves but the Spurs boss was let down by the winger’s showing.

Per SofaScore, Bergwijn lost a whopping 77% of his duels on the pitch as he failed to match Wolves’ intensity. He only won three of the 13 duels he faced on the ground and in the air, whilst also losing possession of the ball 16 times overall.

The £73k-per-week dud also shirked his defensive responsibilities as he failed to make a single block, tackle or interception and was dribbled past once. This suggests that he did not put the work in defensively to help his full-back, which Santo will surely be frustrated with as it leaves the wide areas exposed for Spurs if he fails to track back.

To his credit, he did create two chances and complete 83% of his 23 attempted passes, with some bright touches and one piece of exquisite skill to beat a couple of players on the touchline that got fans off their seat.

However, this was coupled with two shots that he failed to score from and a 0% success rate from attempting long balls and crosses. Despite those few bright moments, his all-around play let him down in the end.

Bergwijn’s complete lack of strength in his duels and his lack of defensive work were not masked by him creating a couple of chances and his place in the team should now be under threat.

Santo gave him the opportunity to prove that he deserves to be a starter and he, unfortunately, let his coach down with a disappointing display.

The ex-Wolves boss may now decide to bring Kane back into the starting XI and shift Son out into Bergwijn’s starting berth on the left or he could choose to give Bryan Gil a platform to impress.

It will be interesting to see what the Portuguese coach decides to do for the Watford clash next Sunday but Bergwijn can have no complaints if he’s dropped.

Expert reveals price tag for Chelsea and Liverpool target Chiesa

Juventus attacker Federico Chiesa would cost Premier League clubs upwards of £100million this summer, according to Forza Italian Football editor Conor Clancy.

Chiesa shone as Italy broke England hearts by winning the Euro 2020 final at Wembley earlier this month.

The former Fiorentina man, who joined Juventus last October for a potential fee of £54million, scored two goals in seven appearances at the international tournament and his performances caught the eye of numerous clubs.

German media outlet Bild, via The Mirror, reported Chelsea have already seen an offer worth £85million pushed back by the Italian giants.

Meanwhile, Italian newspaper Repubblica – via MailOnline – revealed Juventus have rejected an £86million bid from Liverpool as they look to reclaim the Premier League title next season.

The 23-year-old scored 15 goals and contributed 11 assists in 46 Juventus appearances last season and Serie A expert Clancy insists the Turin-based club will do everything they can to ensure Chiesa does not depart.

Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, he said: “It would take all of the money. Juve are playing hardball with Chiesa because he is their star now.

“Forget about Cristiano Ronaldo. Chiesa is the guy that’s going to take them forward to the next generation.

“It’s going to take a lot of money, probably £100m, to make Juve part ways with him and I’m not sure that’s going to happen this summer.”

Spurs now weighing move to sign Sarr

According to Eurosport, Tottenham Hotspur have now become the latest club to ‘consider a move’ for Watford star Ismaila Sarr – with the Hornets’ stance on a sale also revealed.

The Lowdown: Paratici cooking…

It has already been quite the busy summer for new managing director Fabio Paratici as he is tasked with developing Tottenham’s on-field sporting operations.

The Italian has overseen a summer rebuild at N17 with plenty of departures and a fair few incomings in Cristian Romero, Bryan Gil and Pierluigi Gollini (Transfermarkt).

He shows no sign of stopping here, either, with Eurosport bringing the latest and namedropping another target.

The Latest: Spurs ‘consider’ Sarr move…

As per the outlet, Tottenham have now entered the fray in regards to Sarr – becoming the latest club to consider moving for him this summer as Paratici weighs a swoop.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-gossip/” title=”Tottenham latest gossip!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Senegalese sensation has attracted attention from many top clubs over the last two seasons, including the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.

Watford, despite Spurs’ fresh interest, seem determined to keep hold of their star player – with Eurosport sources suggesting any interested club will have to offer ‘well north’ of £50 million.

The Verdict: Statement of intent…

While Sarr appears unlikely to leave Vicarage Road going by his club’s stance, Tottenham weighing a swoop for him arguably signals their huge ambition and intent to back new boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

Lauded as a ‘really exciting player’ by former Liverpool striker Neil Mellor (via The Express), the 23-year-old’s recent numbers certainly back this up.

According to WhoScored, Sarr averaged an impressive 2.2 shots per 90 over 39 Championship starts last season whilst notching 13 goals and four assists – marking himself out as a real key player.

Hornets keeper Ben Foster is certainly a huge fan of his teammate, who he calls ‘phenomenal’ with the best acceleration he’s ever seen (Watford Observer).

Tottenham entering the mix for him certainly highlights Paratici’s goal to seriously bolster the Lilywhites, even if it is unlikely they can get meet Watford’s lofty asking price.

Pundit: Grealish must join Man City to boost England chances

Former Manchester City left-back Michael Ball believes Jack Grealish must join the Premier League champions if he wants to ensure a starting berth in Gareth Southgate’s England side ahead of Qatar 2022.

Pep Guardiola has been keen to sign Aston Villa captain Grealish this summer, with reports suggesting City are set to offer £100million for the attacking midfielder.

Grealish, who was England’s poster boy during their run to a first-ever European Championships final earlier this month, is Villa’s highest-paid player and has four years remaining on his £120,000-per-week deal.

As a result, Villa are not in a position where they need to sell their talisman and hold a strong negotiating position should City firm up their interest.

The 25-year-old made 27 appearances last season, contributing seven goals and 12 assists.

Ball feels Grealish needs to leave his boyhood club if he wants to become a member of Southgate’s preferred England starting line-up ahead of next year’s World Cup in Qatar.

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, Ball said: “We know how much he is a Villa fan but, at the end of the day, he’ll want to break into that England side for the World Cup and he wants to be one of the key players.

“I feel for him to improve, so Gareth Southgate has no doubts as to whether to play him, he has to move on. What better manager is there to play under than Guardiola?

“If Manchester City come calling, he’s got to go. If that move happens, he is the number one pick for the World Cup.”

Crystal Palace: Fans react to Zion Atta update

Ligue 1 side Nice are leading the way to sign Crystal Palace youngster Zion Atta, according to The Daily Mail.

And a number of Palace supporters have been reacting to the update on social media

The Daily Mail suggest that Nice are in pole position to sign the 16-year-old attacker, who was snapped up by super-agent Mino Raiola earlier this year.

Atta has also had interest from Ajax, Juventus, PSV and Roma, but it appears as if a move to France could be on the cards.

Palace would be due compensation, should a move go through, however, the report claims the Eagles’ interest in Nice forward Deji Sotona could help negotiations between the two clubs.

Sotona, formerly of Manchester United, is 18 years of age and could be known to Patrick Vieira, who managed Nice between 2018 and 2020.

Palace fans react

@CPFCtransfersHQ shared The Daily Mail’s claim on Atta on Twitter on Saturday lunchtime.

Here’s what some Palace fans had to say in reply, with one describing a possible exit as ‘stupid’, whereas others were quick to slam Raiola.

Wolves fans react to Cutrone comments

Wolves striker Patrick Cutrone says he’s looking for a team that will allow him to play ‘continuously’ (via Il Giornale).

The Italian revealed that he is working with his agent in order to ‘find the best solution’. They’re taking time to assess their options because ‘the market has just started’.

Cutrone fails to make an impact at Wolves

Wolves brought Cutrone to Molineux back in July 2019 for a fee of £16million. He’s now halfway through the four-year deal he signed on arrival in the Midlands (via BBC Sport).

Cutrone, who has only Italy cap at senior level, has made 28 appearances for Wolves but only managed to score three goals (via Transfermarkt).

He spent a year on loan in the Serie A with Fiorentina before a temporary move to Valencia.

With Raul Jimenez back in the fold after recovering from the fractured skull that ruled him out for much of the 20/21 campaign and Fabio Silva signed last summer for a record £35.6million, Wolves too may be willing to move on Cutrone.

Fan feed Talking Wolves relayed his exit hint, and here’s what supporters had to say.
