Drama familiar dentro do futebol moldou promessa do Corinthians

Man City fans react to Ferran transfer news

Barcelona have agreed terms with Manchester City forward Ferran Torres and the Catalan giants are still pushing for a deal to be made following a failed bid, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Torres arrived in Manchester during the summer 2020 transfer window in a deal worth £25.2m. The 21-year-old has enjoyed a fine start to life in England; in 43 matches for the club, he has scored 16 goals and produced four assists. That is despite starting just 19 top-flight games in almost a year and a half at the Etihad Stadium.

However, the youngster is currently out injured with a fractured foot, having missed 16 games as a result, and it is still unclear as to when he will be able to return. Despite this setback, Barcelona are very interested in luring the Spain international to the Camp Nou in the January transfer window.

These Man City fans erupt at Romano’s claim

According to reports by Romano, Barcelona are pushing to make a deal with City for the winger and have made a €50m (£42.7m) bid, whilst the Premier League champions hold their price tag at €60m (£51.3m). Despite this, Torres has already agreed personal terms with the La Liga club.

In response to Romano’s tweet, a number of City fans flocked to the comments to usher the process along in the hope that a deal could be done to fund moves for reported targets such as Dusan Vlahovic and Erling Haaland.

Here’s what some fans said:

Dan James value plummets at Leeds

Leeds United broke their club-record fee during the summer transfer window but things have not gone to plan ever since.

The Yorkshire giants find themselves sitting perilously in 16th place, just five points above the relegation zone, having gone close to challenging for a place in Europe last season.

Marcelo Bielsa has suffered from persistent injury problems off the pitch throughout the entire campaign but that doesn’t completely excuse their poor and inconsistent displays on it.

He finally got his man, landing Daniel James from Manchester United in a £30m deal, some 18 months after his move from Swansea City in the Championship fell through.

However, the 24-year-old Wales international has been hugely underwhelming – a worrying sign considering the considerable sum that chairman Andrea Radrizzani invested in him.

Of the ten players to have started at least ten of their 17 league games, James ranks seventh-worst for average WhoScored rating (6.49), having provided only one goal and one assist in 14 appearances.

As a creative influence in the side, there are seven better options, with the 5 foot 7 winger offering only 0.8 key passes per game, whilst he has struggled to deliver goals in the absence of leading talisman Patrick Bamford.

Despite averaging the third-highest amount of shots (1.9 per game), he has found the net just once, which is rather appalling, especially considering he scored five times for United last term.

That shocking form has led to plenty of criticism, particularly from Darren Bent, who slammed him to Football Insider: “The only thing about Dan James at times, for me, he’s a little bit headless.

“He’s shown great potential, when he first went to United he played really well, scored a few goals but at times he for me he’s fouled or he shoots sometimes when he should pass it, he’ll pass when he should shoot.”

As such, he has seen his value decrease immensely with Transfermarkt now rating him at just £16.2m. Leeds’ fifth most-expensive player.

That’s a decrease of 46% in the space of just six months, a worrying prospect and one that is sure to leave Radrizzani absolutely fuming. Director of football Victor Orta has had a mare with this transfer, thus far.

Weary Watson willing for work

Australia’s investment in Shane Watson is finally paying dividends

Australia’s investment in Shane Watson is finally paying dividends, but the question of sustainability continues to weigh heavily upon the minds of Ricky Ponting and the selection panel. Watson, perhaps the fittest player in international cricket, was mentally and physically fatigued after two day’s play during which he claimed two wickets from 12 overs and amassed 96 unbeaten runs from 146 deliveries. It is a testament to Watson’s dedication to training and general resilience that, in the final month of the busiest year of his career, he is fulfilling the dual roles of fourth seamer and opening batsman with aplomb. He will arrive at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday one clean strike away from his maiden Test century, and will presumably be called upon again in West Indies’ second innings to provide bowling support. It is, by any stretch, a massive workload, and one Ponting is attempting to manage as best he can. Not since Bob Simpson has a regular Australian opener shouldered such bowling responsibilities, and Ponting was wary not to throw the ball Watson’s way in the problematic quest for West Indies’ tenth wicket on Saturday until he really had to, conscious of his need to bat immediately afterwards.Ponting has spoken previously of his desire to see Watson assume a more conventional allrounder’s role in the middle order, thus allowing him to bowl unrestricted, but he will be difficult to budge while he is scoring so heavily in the openers’ position. Watson’s horrendous run of injuries over the years seems to support calls for a cautious approach to his overall management – particularly as he is now considered a first-choice Australian player in all three forms of the game – but for now, the Australians are content to gamble on his durability.”He’s a bit weary more than anything else,” Tim Nielsen, the Australia coach, said after stumps. “He’s had two full days on the ground, bowled some overs and he’s just a bit stiff and sore and mentally worn out. He’s obviously pretty chuffed that he’s on 96 not out. He’s looking forward to a good meal and a big sleep and hopefully turning up and getting another hundred or so.”The feet are often the first things to go when energy levels trough, and Watson showed few overt signs of fatigue on Saturday. Footwork is an area Watson has spent much time addressing of late – he had been trapped lbw in five of six innings as opener entering the Adelaide Test – and save for a hopeful first-ball appeal from Kemar Roach, he was nimble and sure-footed at the crease.Watson will face more intimidating attacks on more challenging surfaces over the course of his career but, as the sporting cliche goes, a man can only play what’s in front of him. To that end, Watson drove, cut and pulled with superb timing and precision, eroding much of the advantage West Indies had claimed earlier in the day with the spirited wagging of their tail.A century on Sunday would be just reward for a player who has battled against injury and public perception since his Test debut almost five years ago. Considered by many to be a stop-gap opener when pitch-forked into the Edgbaston Test, Watson’s maturity in the role was evident on Saturday as his score coincided with a pair of ducks to Phillip Hughes and Phil Jaques during New South Wales’ 50-over defeat to Tasmania. The position is his for sometime yet.”If anything [a century] will take a little bit of weight off his shoulders personally,” Nielsen said. “He’s done it at one-day level. The biggest thing about succeeding at international level is understanding you can do it and experiencing it. If he can get across the line for this first hundred that will take that doubt away from him, and then the sky’s the limit. Belief is a massive part and that’s one step of it tomorrow if he’s successful.”One man who has taken a particularly keen interest in Watson’s evolution as a batsman is Brendan Nash, his one-time Queensland team-mate and present-day Test adversary. Nash remembered Watson as a cross-bat middle-order dasher during his days with the Bulls. No longer.”He always had that technique and was always working very hard,” Nash said. “That work looks like it’s paying off and coming through for him. I noticed he’s changed his stance. Looking at him batting in the top order now or opening … he’s really had to tighten up and look to hit straight. His driving is looking very solid and he’s obviously a very good puller and hooker of the ball. We’re going to have our work cut out.”

Younis could come out of Twenty20 retirement

Younis Khan, Pakistan’s Test and ODI captain, has said he could return to playing Twenty20 internationals

Younis Khan, Pakistan’s Test and ODI captain, has hinted that he could return to Twenty20 cricket despite having retired from the format after leading his team to the world title in England in June this year.In a television interview with , Younis nudged the door open for a possible return to a format he thought he was too old for. “If my fellow players accept me and the nation wants me to,” Younis said, “I will come back to playing Twenty20 internationals.”Younis had announced his retirement at a press conference right after Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by eight wickets at Lord’s to win the final. Ijaz Butt, the PCB chairman, had said at the time that he would try and get Younis to change his mind though Pakistan seemed to have moved past that by appointing Afridi as the Twenty20 captain.Afridi led Pakistan to a Twenty20 win against Sri Lanka in the summer and will lead them in internationals against New Zealand and Australia, before spearheading Pakistan’s defence of the world title in April next year in the West Indies. And responding to Younis, Afridi, on the same show a night later, said Younis was “more than welcome” to return and would even “step down from the captaincy and play under Younis Khan”.Younis had recently resigned as Pakistan captain from all formats following allegations of match-fixing during the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa and murmurs about factions in the team and management working to undermine him. The Pakistan board, however, rejected the resignation and Butt came out in support of Younis, who then said he was happy to take back the captaincy after certain conditions were met.Afridi again denied reports of a rift with Younis but did confirm that some other players had problems with Younis after the Champions Trophy, which were now resolved. “The players informed me about their problems,” Afridi said. “I told them it was better if they directly communicate their problems to Younis, an idea which they didn’t like.”Afridi said he had already informed both Younis and the PCB chairman about the players’ problems and he hoped in future there will be no communication gap between team players and the captain. “The problem with our players is they don’t speak their heart out and that’s where the communication gap comes in,” Afridi saidYounis has played 22 Twenty20 internationals, scoring 432 runs at an average of 25.41 with a strike rate of 124.85. Pakistan’s next Twenty20 assignment is two matches against New Zealand in Dubai in November.
