O Palmeiras deve enfrentar o Santos com Jailson, Marcos Rocha, Antônio Carlos, Thiago Martins e Victor Luis; Felipe Melo, Bruno Henrique e Lucas Lima; Keno, Dudu e Willian.

West Indies take 2-1 lead after narrow win

West Indies eked out a three-wicket win with four balls to spare to take a 2-1 lead over India in the five-match ODI series

ESPNcricinfo staff15-Jan-2011West Indies eked out a three-wicket win with four balls to spare in the third ODI at the Reliance Stadium in Vadodara to take a 2-1 lead in the five-game series. There was a late wobble when Deandra Dottin and Shanel Daley fell in quick succession, but with plenty of overs left, Shemaine Campbelle and Anisa Mohammad made sure they got to their target without further trouble.Openers Stefanie Taylor and Juliana Nero gave the West Indies a steady start, reaching 45 in the 11th over before Rumeli Dhar had Nero caught for 22. Left-arm spinner Gouher Sultana and legspinner Priyanka Roy tied down the batsmen in the middle overs, with the pair conceding just 41 runs between them. Roy also removed the dangeous Taylor for 46, but the vistors continued to get useful contributions and at 142 for 5 in the 42nd over, were the odds-on favourites to complete a comfortable victory. But Dhar dismissed Dottin with the last ball of the 42nd over and in the next over Roy had Daley caught to give the West Indies something to think about. With 7.3 overs remaining and just 15 runs to get, however, Campbelle and Mohammad didn’t need to take any risks to take the West Indies to their target.India won the toss and chose to bat first, slumping to 102 for 7 before some lusty lower-order hitting from Amita Sharma, who made 35 from 34 balls, helped them post 156.

Sri Lanka seek first series win in Australia

Cricinfo’s preview of the second ODI between Australia and Sri Lanka at the SCG

The Preview by Brydon Coverdale04-Nov-2010Match FactsThe Australians will be pleased to see the return of Ricky Ponting•Getty Images

Friday, November 5, Sydney
Start time 14.20 local (03.20 GMT)The Big PictureLosses don’t come much more demoralising than the one-wicket defeat Australia suffered on Wednesday. To fail having had the opposition at 8 for 107 chasing 240 is a massive confidence-sapper. Australia have now lost six internationals in a row since July, and three weeks from the first ball of the Ashes that’s a worrying position to be in. More immediately, they must find a way to bounce back at the SCG, or Sri Lanka will win a series in Australia for the first time. The Australians will be back under the leadership of Ricky Ponting, who missed Wednesday’s game to attend his grandmother’s funeral, and after their lacklustre bowling effort to Angelo Mathews and Lasith Malinga, don’t be surprised if there are changes to the attack.Sri Lanka, for all their joy at achieving one of the most remarkable comeback wins in ODI history, know that they too have much to work on before the second game. Kumar Sangakkara said after the Melbourne triumph that he was disappointed with their fielding, and the incredible efforts of Mathews and Malinga should not mask some top-order worries. The shot selection from several experienced batsmen was poor, none more so than the ugly cross-batted swipe from Chamara Silva, early in his innings, that resulted in him being caught at mid-on off a top edge. There could be a couple of changes to the Sri Lankan side, despite the win, as they aim for a historic series victory down under.Form guide (most recent first)

Sri Lanka WWWLW
Watch out for…Xavier Doherty made an impressive debut on Wednesday and after his first two overs had the remarkable figures of 3 for 3. He altered his pace and spin cleverly, collecting wickets with his skiddy arm ball as well as his more traditional turning delivery. Doherty should enjoy the Sydney conditions, and will be aiming to add to his World Cup credentials. It’s extremely unusual for Lasith Malinga to be celebrated for his batting, but his maiden half-century was a key part of Sri Lanka’s opening win. However, it was easy to forget that he’d also done a fine job with the ball, keeping things tight if not exactly running through the batting order. He is known for his slingy action and speed, but his slower ball is particularly dangerous, as Shane Watson discovered at the MCG.Team newsPonting will come back and it is likely to be more-or-less a straight swap for the injured Shaun Marsh. Callum Ferguson is in the squad but it is hard to see him ousting any of the existing top six. Steven Smith hurt his back in the field during the series opener and was unable to bowl in the second half of the innings, and if he is rested, Nathan Hauritz would be the natural replacement. The selectors are also keen to see some new faces before the World Cup squad is chosen in early January, so it seems illogical to make the young fast man Mitchell Starc keep carrying the drinks. He probably won’t replace Mitchell Johnson, though; despite his wayward bowling on Wednesday, the feeling in the Australian camp is that resting Johnson only makes him rustier.Australia (possible) 1 Shane Watson, 2 Brad Haddin (wk), 3 Ricky Ponting (capt), 4 Michael Clarke, 5 Michael Hussey, 6 Cameron White, 7 Steven Smith / Nathan Hauritz, 8 Mitchell Johnson, 9 John Hastings, 10 Xavier Doherty, 11 Mitchell Starc.Sri Lanka’s top-order batting was a worry at the MCG, and if anyone is in danger of being dropped it is Silva. Jeevan Mendis was the 12th man in the series opener and could come in to calculations, especially as he would give them some more variety in the spin department on a Sydney surface that could provide some turn.Sri Lanka (possible) 1 Upul Tharanga, 2 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 3 Mahela Jayawardene, 4 Kumar Sangakkara (capt, wk), 5 Chamara Silva / Jeevan Mendis, 6 Angelo Mathews, 7 Thisara Perera, 8 Suraj Randiv, 9 Nuwan Kulasekara, 10 Lasith Malinga, 11 Muttiah Muralitharan.Pitch and conditionsThe SCG usually offers some spin, and both teams have good slow-bowling options in their line-ups. The forecast for Friday is for isolated showers and a top temperature of 18C.Stats and trivia Australia’s six-match losing streak across all formats is their worst since 1996-97, when they suffered six straight defeats to West Indies and Pakistan. Earlier that year they lost seven on the trot, beginning with the final of the Singer World Series in Colombo. Sri Lanka have won four of their 14 ODIs at the SCG, including two of ten against Australia Doherty’s 4 for 46 was the fourth-best bowling effort by an Australian ODI debutant, after Tony Dodemaide, Stuart MacGill and Carl RackemannQuotes”We kept bowling bouncers that were chest high rather than head high, we bowled a few wides, we bowled a few slower balls that we didn’t land properly, and we didn’t really do anything out of the ordinary.”

“Come Sydney, we can’t afford to make most of the mistakes we made today and expect this to happen again, because it doesn’t happen often. Let’s keep our heads down, our feet on the ground and start again.”

Olho no menino!

Forest surely regret Ahmedhodzic exit

Nottingham Forest’s decision to let Anel Ahmedhodzic leave the City Ground back in 2019 could well go down as one of the biggest howlers the club has made in recent times.

Ahmedhodzic was a product of Swedish outfit Malmo FF and left the side to join Nottingham Forest’s U18s. The Bosnian with Swedish citizenship worked his way up to the Forest senior side, where he made one first-team appearance as a substitute against Newcastle United, before rejoining Malmo FF – this time as a first-team player.

After a six-month loan spell to Danish outfit Hobro IK, Ahmedhodzic was recalled and became a big part of the squad after signing a new three-year deal, with the side becoming league champions just seven months after he returned from his loan spell.

The following year was the antithesis of his spell at Forest and saw the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Atalanta very much interested in signing the then 22-year-old. The latter, Atalanta, were on the verge of signing Ahmedhodzic in March of 2021, though he stayed with Malmo and made his Champions League debut just five months later against Juventus.

Fast forward to the present day and Ahmedhodzic finds himself on loan at Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux, having established himself as a starter since joining in January.

Bordeaux have an option to buy the 6 foot 4 centre-back for just €4m (£3.3m) which is a bargain, considering his market value has elevated to £6.3m, according to Transfermarkt.

At 23-years-old his potential is limitless, though if you were to take a look at his stats, they would suggest he is a box-to-box midfielder.

They are peculiar to say the least, but nevertheless impressive. As a centre-back, it is very rare to achieve a shot-creating actions average of one SCA per 90 minutes. Though that suggests everything you need to know about Ahmedhodzic and the system that he operates in.

The Bosnia international plays in a back three and functions as an overlapping centre-back, with his ability in possession a key enabler in his desire to progress up the pitch.

He’s been described by Fabrizio Romano as a “top talent” and it is easy to see why.

If Ahmedhodzic keeps up this trajectory, he will have Nottingham Forest deeply regretting their decision to sell him after he was afforded just one appearance.

Dominant Warriors look for third win

Both teams have created chances; however, while Warriors have found someone to finish the job, Central Districts have allowed their opposition to get out of tight spots

It has been a case of what-if for Central Districts so far in the Champions League. In their opening game, they had Chennai Super Kings in trouble at 40 for 3 in the ninth over, but lost the advantage on a Durban pitch that assisted the bowlers. In their second game, they had Victoria needing 66 from 39 balls after David Hussey departed, but were blown away by Aaron Finch. This after Central Districts captain Jamie How had inspired his side from 3 for 2 to 165 for 5.Contrast this with Warriors who were in a similar situation in their last game, also against Victoria. Hussey had been dismissed with 65 needed from 36 balls. Rusty Theron then snuffed out three wickets in the space of eight deliveries as Warriors sealed the match ruthlessly. That has been the difference between the two sides ahead of their Port Elizabeth clash. Both teams have created chances; however, while Warriors have found someone to finish the job, Central Districts have allowed their opposition to get out of tight spots. How has found little support with the bat, while Davey Jacobs, the Warriors’ captain, has the comfort of having someone with Mark Boucher’s class to shore up the middle order. Central Districts’ most penetrative bowler has been Doug Bracewell, who has gone at nearly eight an over for his three wickets, while Theron has taken six wickets at an economy rate of 5.62 runs.Given the gulf in current form between the two sides, it is hard to see Central Districts troubling the Warriors too much as the home team look to seal a semi-final berth.TeamsWarriors should go in with the same combination that has won them their first two games comfortably.
Warriors (probable) – 1 Davey Jacobs (capt), 2 Ashwell Prince, 3 Colin Ingram, 4 Justin Kreusch, 5 Mark Boucher, 6 Johan Botha, 7 Craig Thyssen, 8 Nicky Boje, 9 Rusty Theron, 10 Makhaya Ntini, 11 Lonwabo Tsotsobe.Central Districts were forced to make changes to their combination against Victoria and will hope to have their first-choice players back in the fray. They have tried out 14 players so far, with only Ben Wheeler – who has played all of two first-class matches – yet to get a game.Central Districts (probable) – 1 Peter Ingram, 2 Jamie How (capt), 3 George Worker, 4 Mathew Sinclair, 5 Bevan Griggs/Tim Weston (wk), 6 Kieran Noema-Barnett, 7 Brendon Diamanti, 8 Doug Bracewell, 9 Adam Milne, 10 Mitchell McClenaghan/Seth Rance, 11 Michael MasonWatch out for…Peter Ingram has lasted eleven deliveries in the tournament, made six runs, and survived a dropped catch. His twin failures have only increased the pressure on his opening partner How, and there can be no better time than this do-or-die clash for an Ingram knock that would make his idol, Virender Sehwag, proud.
Ashwell Prince has done marginally better than Ingram, but he looked scratchy against Victoria and was involved in the run-out of the blazing Jacobs. While Prince is not known to blaze away, a Twenty20 strike-rate of 106.80 from 22 innings does not do justice to a player of his class.Key contestsHow v Theron: A good start from How is crucial to Central Districts’ batting fortunes, as was evident against Victoria. Theron has been outstanding with the ball for Warriors, snaring two wickets in the opening over against Wayamba and then running through Victoria’s middle order.Stats and Trivia Johan Botha has taken the most wickets, 54, among the 13 bowlers who have economy rates of under six runs an over in T20s.
Mark Boucher, who holds the Test record for most dismissals by a wicketkeeper, stands joint-tenth on the list for T20s with 47 dismissals.Quotes”We set ourselves a target of being one of the best franchises in the world by 2011 and we’ve got the opportunity now.”

“We proved we can compete with the best sides in the world. We will concentrate on getting over the line in the next two matches.”

Journalist makes big Carter-Vickers claim

A major Tottenham Hotspur exit development has now come to light in the last 24 hours, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Spurs exodus looming?

There have been many Lilywhites players linked with a move away from north London in recent weeks, including some pretty big names.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-newest-updates/” title=”Tottenham newest updates…” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Perhaps the most notable is club-record signing Tanguy Ndombele with the Lyon loanee no longer in manager Antonio Conte’s plans going forward.

The Evening Standard claim that Tottenham are now open to selling the 25-year-old with defender Joe Rodon now also set to be sold alongside Ndombele, per Football Insider.

USA international Cameron Carter-Vickers, currently on a temporary spell at Celtic, is another Spurs player linked with a permanent summer exit with SBI Soccer reporter Larry Henry Jr now sharing a major development.

The Latest: Carter-Vickers development…

As per the American journalist, sharing news from one of his close sources, the Hoops are now in advanced talks to sign Carter-Vickers permanently from Spurs.

He explained (via Twitter):

“Celtic is in advanced talks to acquire USMNT and Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers, a source confirmed. Celtic remains “very happy” with CCV, but still will need to fight off competition from English clubs.”

The Verdict: Get it completed…

Offloading Carter-Vickers for a small profit margin is arguably imperative given Conte’s lofty summer transfer ambitions, with as many as six major signings reportedly on his agenda (The Telegraph).

The 24-year-old, a mainstay under Ange Postecoglou over 2021/2022, has barely been given a look-in down south for Tottenham and now is the perfect time to let him leave and further his career.

Once called a ‘beast’ by Spurs fan favourite Jan Vertonghen, it appears Carter-Vickers will have to take up that mantle elsewhere – likely at Parkhead and away from the Premier League.

Leeds United interested in Matheus Martins

Leeds United have joined the likes of Ajax and Benfica in the race to sign Fluminense starlet Matheus Martins in the summer transfer window.

What’s the story?

According to Brazilian publication Globo Esporte (via Sport Witness), Jesse Marsch’s team are monitoring the 18-year-old’s situation with Fluminense, although no official contact has been made by any side on a potential move.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-leeds-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-marsch-raphinha-dest-philhay” title=”Read the latest Leeds news!”]

The report added that a deal could well be a pricey one, with Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk having had a significant bid for him rejected just last year.

Shades of Raphinha

In addition to following Raphinha on Instagram, Martins appears to be following in his fellow Brazilian’s footsteps in terms of style of play too.

Predominantly a left winger, the 18-year-old has earned international honours with Brazil at underage level, while he has begun to break onto the scene in the first-team at club level.

This season has seen him make three appearances in the past couple of months for Fluminense, while he was in outstanding form in Brazil’s Copinha tournament featuring some of the best academy sides, scoring two goals and providing one assist in six games.

As per Sofascore, he has completed 43% of his dribbles in the Brazilian top flight, while also averaging a reasonable 80% pass accuracy. However, what makes him an even more Leeds-like prospect is some of his defensive numbers, winning 0.6 tackles per match (stats which are near-identical to the likes of fellow winger Dan James, and Rodrigo too).

With a reported release clause of around £42m, the 18-year-old is certainly well regarded by those at Fluminense, and while a transfer fee may not reach that mark, it’s indicative of the kind of big-money needed by suitors to land him.

If Leeds could beat the likes of Ajax and Benfica to his signature – both of whom have a great history of having a real eye for young talent – then it would be a major coup for Marsch.
