I am here to destroy whoever I play against. I am so glad that I did it against India, the world champions.”There was no trace of arrogance. So I tell myself I can play.”He might come across a fun eccentric character but he is a severely passionate and hard-working man. He used to be a fast bowler in his under-15 days but an accident injured his back and he couldn’t bowl fast anymore. So he tried off spin but the under-19 coach in Antigua told him he had to try something else since they had two established offspinners. “I said ok. I switched to leg spin … I had to find something to stay in the game. I used to warm-up with legspin when I was a pacer and so I tried my hand at it.”His uncle was his chief mentor of his life. As he puts it his unique way, “My uncle didn’t tolerate any crap. He was always serious. If you notice I am always serious too. I don’t make jokes when the game is going on. When it’s on my only friends are my team-mates.”Antigua is where he grew up and he was disappointed not to play in the fourth ODI. It spurred him on. “I went back to the hotel and thought the coach didn’t think fit for me to play. I tell myself that whenever I get the opportunity to play I am going to show that I deserve to be there in the eleven.”More motivation was also at hand. “I didn’t want the whitewash or the Indian wash!” He ended the press meet with more delightful gems. “I don’t like losing. Although the home team had to fight hard for their victory, it ended up being a comprehensive one.Sachin Tendulkar expected conditions to be difficult for batting but he probably didn’t expect that none of his batsmen would score more than 17. Mumbai started confidently with Tendulkar driving the second ball through point and Davy Jacobs punching the ball over long-on for the first six of the innings. Jacobs went three balls after that shot when he played across the line to an Amit Singh delivery that uprooted middle stump.In the next over, Tendulkar was stumped off the bowling of Ashok Menaria to give the left-arm spinner his first wicket in Twenty20 cricket and deny the spectators the possibility of a Tendulkar versus Shane Warne special. Menaria showed confidence in flighting the ball and reading the batsmen’s intentions. He was rewarded for a second time when he bowled a short delivery to Ambati Rayudu, who charged down the pitch and offered Menaria a simple return catch.Shane Warne brought himself on and had success in his second over, inviting Rohit Sharma to drive in the air to Johan Botha on the long-off rope. Watson and Botha saw off his first two overs and although the required-rate was never going to trouble them, they picked the balls to hit well.Botha slog-swept Harbhajan for six while Watson hit Pollard for a straight six over his head. They handled Murtaza with greater ease in his second spell and the chase was turning into a stroll. Tendulkar brought Malinga back into the attack, and after three full balls, he banged one in short to Watson who was caught behind off an edge.Ross Taylor joined Johan Botha and the pair concentrated on rotating the strike, which was all they needed to do. Two fuller deliveries were punished with Taylor stroking a ball through the covers for four and Botha lofting one over midwicket. Botha took Rajasthan to the brink and was bowled with just five runs left to get for the win. Rajasthan have now won 14 out of 18 home games in IPLs, with 11 of those wins coming in Jaipur.

Just when it appeared that Lancashire had cleared the final hurdle in the legal battle to develop Old Trafford another potentially serious obstacle has been put in their way with Derwent Holdings, the rival development company, going to the Court of Appeal which raises further doubts over the club’s international future.Earlier this month the High Court ruled in Lancashire’s favour over their joint plans with Ask Developments to renovate Old Trafford along with the Stretford area. Derwent Holdings were told they had no grounds of appeal over the decisions but are taking the legal battle further.The long court cases have already put serious pressure on the timescale to have the work completed at Old Trafford in time for the 2013 Ashes series and further delays could scupper the plans altogether.”Despite being defeated emphatically in the High Court, and being refused leave to appeal by the High Court judge only last week, Derwent has announced its intent to try and over-turn the High Court judgment at the Court of Appeal in London,” Jim Cumbes, the Lancashire chief executive, said.”Derwent have made so many attempts to derail our project and have been thwarted convincingly at every stage. We remain totally confident that, although they will attempt absolutely everything due to seemingly unlimited financial resources, we shall succeed eventually.”We promised that we will secure a new international cricket ground and bring huge benefits to both the local and regional community and economy. O JOGO

Em casa, o Avaí começou o jogo mais ligado e indo com mais frequência ao ataque. Entretanto, o Goiás não se intimidou e também apresentou oportunidades de gol. Porém, após metade do primeiro tempo, as equipes começaram a trocar passes, sem a objetividade do início. A equipe Esmeraldinacresceu aos poucos e teve duas boas chances. Uma com Caíque Sá, uma com Carlos Eduardo.

Na segunda etapa, foi o Goiás que começou pressionando e logo aos três minutos tem oportunidade, em escanteio, de fazer o primeiro gol do jogo. A partida continuou movimentada, aos 18 minutos, o meia Marquinhos que tinha acabado de entrar, cobrou falta com perigo, e por pouco gol do clube catarinense não saiu.

Aos 26 minutos, após falha da zaga do Avaí, o Goiás aproveitou a oportunidade e abriu o placar, com o lateral-esquerdo Breno. O goleiro Aranha falhou no gol. Mas mesmo com o gol, o Avaí não se abateu e conseguiu arrancar o empate na partida, com Rômulo, aos 41 minutos. Porém, a alegria não durou muito tempo, dois minutos depois, Júnior Viçosa aproveitou bola sobrada e colocou o Verdão a frente no placar. No apagar das luzes, o atacante Rodrigão, que tinha entrado no segundo tempo, conseguiu cabeceio, após cruzamento da linha de fundo, e empurrou para o fundo do barbante. Resultado final: 2 a 2.

Manchester City have seen many players come and go at the Etihad Stadium over the past few years, usually for significant sums of money.

As things stand in their current season, the Citizens are four games away from potentially securing the Premier League title once again.

Should the club manage to do that, it would be the only trophy they would get their hands on this season after getting knocked out of the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and, this week, the Champions League.

Now that the summer transfer window is on the horizon, it seems as though a big clue has emerged regarding what sort of business could be done behind the scenes at the Etihad this time around.

What’s the news?

According to a recent report from The Telegraph, City are preparing to “refresh their squad this summer amid hope Pep Guardiola will extend his contract with the club.”

It has also been claimed that City “are expected to sign the Norway striker Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund for the £63m release clause in his contract regardless of what happens with the manager’s longer-term future.”

The report added that the Citizens “want to bring in another midfielder, with Fernandinho due to leave at the end of the season, and doubts surrounding the futures of at least five other senior players.”

Focusing on their potential swoop for Haaland, the fact that City have missed more big chances (58) than any other team in the Premier League this season shows that they could do with having a clinical striker like the Norwegian in their line-up.

Having scored 85 goals in 87 games for the Bundesliga giants, it’s safe to say that the 21-year-old could be a crucial signing for City if he can replicate that same sort of consistent goalscoring form in England.

Taking all this into account, it seems as though the hierarchy at the Etihad could be set for a busy summer period in terms of securing deals for players potentially moving into and out of the club once again.

This would surely be great news for City supporters who will be hoping that whatever business gets done in the summer will put their team in with a great chance of winning every competition in which they are involved next season and beyond.
